Boyd K. Packer Testifies That Getting a Mormon Testimony Requires Repeated Lying to Oneself, Repeated Lying to Others and Repeated Brainwashing for Missionaries to Buy Into the Lie

by steve benson Nov 2011

A testimony is to be found in the bearing of it!

"It is not unusual to have a missionary say, 'How can I bear testimony until I get one? How can I testify that God lives, that Jesus is the Christ and that the gospel is true? If I do not have such a testimony, would that not be dishonest?'

"Oh, if could teach you one principle:

"A testimony is to be found in the bearing of it! Somewhere in your quest for spiritual knowledge, there is that 'leap of faith,' as the philosophers call it. It is the moment when you have gone to the edge of the light and stepped into the darkness to discover that the way is lighted ahead for just a footstep or two. 'The spirit of man,' is as the scripture says, indeed 'is the candle of the Lord.' (Prov. 20:27)"

(Boyd K. Packer, "The Candle of the Lord," from talk given at seminar for new mission presidents, 25 June 1982, published in "Ensign," January 1983, at: http://lds.org/ensign/1983/01/the-candle-of-the-lord?lang=eng)
_____

Leap into the light by lying to yourself and others for as long as it takes.

Eventually you'll come to believe it.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

In the name of Lying for the LDS-Inc Lord. Amen.

This got me thinking about...
...the problems of witness testimonies at trials in Mormonia. I wonder now many LDS witness testify as to what they BELIEVE to be the truth.

"But the most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success
unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly and with unflagging attention. It must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over. Here, as so often in this world, persistence is the first and most important requirement for success."

This brought my mother to mind. She decided to believe I was someone I wasn't. For years she would accuse or imply I was guilty of something, or that I was such and such a way. She constantly bore her testimony about how my future was going to be. A package all neatly tied and entangled in mormonism. I left home when I was 17 because I couldn't take it anymore.

It took years, and a lot of therapy to get to place that I knew was finally me. I had to undo years of her testimonial tapes that ran in my head. She was so sure she was right about me.

Turns out, not even close.

I bore my testimony even though I didn't have one from the time I was a child until the last time when I gave my report of my mission. I would have vehemently denied not having one. I do have a testimony of brainwashing however.

Since my burning in the bosom never ever got ignited, I guess Boyd would say I just quit lying too soon. I definitely didn't quit soon enough--that would be impossible.

One of my favorite quotes from that same BKP talk:

"The spiritual part of us and the emotional part of us are so closely linked that is possible to mistake an emotional impulse for something spiritual. We occasionally find people who receive what they assume to be spiritual promptings from God, when those promptings are either centered in the emotions or are from the adversary."

Interesting that they Mormons themselves have to point out that their method of "finding truth" is not reliable.

In other words, what is naturally an emotional response, LDS Inc. falsely reclassifies as a spiritual one--that is, as long as . . .
. . . the emotional response is positive toward the Mormon Cult's interests and can be used to service those interests.

If, on the other hand, it's not the kind of response that can by manipulated by the Mormon Cult to advance its agenda then according to the Mormon Cult, it's either:

(a) an emotional response unguided by the Holy Ghost; or

(b) as Packer himself declares, it's a response emanating from Satan.

Is this not, ladies and gentlemen, the classic, name-brand modus operandi of a Cult?

Fast and testimony meeting
Group therapy - tell each other the lie long enough till you believe! Can I get an AMEN Brother Benson?

So in other words...
If you are still stuck in the light because you don't know if the church is true, you must enter the darkness and stay until your eyes become accustomed to it, whereupon you can lead others into the darkness and feel right about it.

They are good at all this aren't they. Reminds me of another classic:

If something good happens to you - the lord is blessing you.
If something bad happens to you - the lord is testing you.

Either way the church is true.

""A testimony is to be found in the bearing of it! Somewhere in your quest for spiritual knowledge, there is that 'leap of faith,' as the philosophers call it."

Let's change a couple of words in that statement:
"Knowledge is to be found in the bearing of it! Somewhere in your quest for knowledge, there is that 'leap of faith,' as the educators call it."

So let's take that mindset and apply it:
"The earth is flat....The earth is flat....The earth is flat....The earth is flat....The earth is flat....The earth is flat...."

It worked for awhile at least...but we all know where that thinking went..
