The scars of Mormonism are always very evident on this board.
jacob Dec. 2012
I think for some of us the wounds are still quite fresh and for others just a memory, but we all share a bond. We were hurt for a higher cause, and we learned that the higher cause was a fraud.
Visit from 1st counselor -Local Mormon Leader
sallycinnamon Dec. 2012
I've been inactive for the last 6 months. I'm in my early 20's, my immediate family has moved 3 hrs away for my dads new job. I stayed to continue school. Last night about 7 pm my doorbell rings at my apt. It's the bishops 1st counselor who I know from going to high school with his daughter. [RfM posters respond and Sally's reply are below]
Family Friction My Brother is a Mormon
nomonomo Dec. 2012
Been researching Mormonism because of some family friction, and found a lot of good info here. Thought I'd post and see if anyone can offer insight into what I'm dealing with. Thanks in advance for any insight. Here goes...
My brother married a Mormon girl years ago.
So apparently our mormon neighbor wasn't our friend, he was our home teacher
luvcake Dec. 2012
So when we first moved to our house in Utah we also decided that, that would be a good time to not go to church anymore. We did not make it as clear as we could have that we were never going to be going back.
So, I guess we thought we made friends with a neighbor across the street.
The "motherhood = happiness" myth
Darth Monson Dec. 2012
Like many women in the church, my wife was raised to believe that motherhood is the highest calling a person can have and that being a mother is the most wonderful, spiritual, and joy inducing experience that a person can have. For some, that may be the case, but NO ONE in the church EVER says, "not everyone is cut out to be a mother."
The Back Story on Backing Off: Was Bruce R. McConkie Upset with Members of His Own Family Supposedly Spreading WIld Tales about the Black-Priesthood Temple "Revelation"? . . .
steve benson Dec. 2012
Mormon Church apostle Bruce R. McConkie, in a public sermon to LDS seminary and institute teachers in August 1978 at Brigham Young University, spoke in dramatic fashion about what he insinuated actually did (and did not) occur in the Salt Lake temple some two months earlier when then-Mormon Church president Spencer W. Kimball told the assembled First Presidency and members of the Quorum of the Twelve that the LDS Church was abandoning its anti-Black doctrine--one which had historically denied the priesthood to men of African descent.
France and Polygamous Missionaries
Garçon
When I was a missionary in France in the early 80's, there was a lot of hushed talk about a missionary that had convinced a couple of other elders and some of the sisters to break away from the church and 'go back to their roots' by forming a polygamous group [in the late 1950's]. This obviously caused a big stir in the region. Some excommunications took place, and many of the members, even in the early 80's still didn't fully trust the American missionaries.

Raptor Jesus re-reads the Miracle of Forgiveness. (Adult with adult language)
Raptor Jesus Aug. 2012 (Some adult language)
My knee gave out over the weekend, and so I thought it would be a nice time to hole up with a "good book." Therefore, with ice, ibuprofen, and my brace, I re-read the Miracle of Forgiveness and will share my thoughts forthwith.
Mormonism - the Enron of religion
T-Bone Aug. 2012
I recently saw a presentation by author named Bethany McLean. She had written an article on Enron before the company declared bankruptcy, and all analysts were praising the company. But she found some red flags

Today one of my daughters called me and asked me to give her the single most important element that makes a religion a cult.
Mormon Church Falsely Claims 1890 Manifesto Ended Polygamy
steve benson Nov. 2012
In an unending effort to twist history and turn it on its head, the Mormon Church dishonestly declares (despite mountains of documented evidence to the contrary) that its 1890 "Manifesto" ended, dead in its tracks, the Mormon practice of polygamy. As is so often the case, the historical record speaks loudly and clearly to the contrary.
Things my Mission Presidents said
xophor Nov. 2012
Things my Mission Presidents said in zone conference...
I have a couple of quotes that stuck with me all these years, probably because I was a bit perturbed to hear them from "spiritual" leaders.
"Well, you know what they say: The looks of your eternal companion depend on how well you served as a missionary...and as far as I'm concerned, that means prettier."
Shock, horror, relief, excitement?

Describe the very moment you realized that the LDS [Mormon] church wasn't true.

Was the church ever biased towards any of you for being shy?
ray Oct. 2012
I was baptized at the age of 10 in early 1985. I left the church in early 1996 at age 21.
I have Asperger's in a moderate way. I avoid eye contact at least half of the time when I am talking and chatting to people. Who has felt badly treated for being shy or more shy than the way the Mormon church like you to be?
The New Party Line? History Doesn't Matter
suckafoo Oct. 2012
This is the new party line my husband's family is using whenever I point something out. That history is not relevant today and what matters is the church today.
I wonder if they have been told this somewhere and are now repeating it because I hear a lot of people on here who are being told this by relatives.
