The very first time I ever heard the word masturbation was when I was 12. Our bishop called me in for my 12 year old interview. I had no ideal what he was asking me about. I did not know what masturbation was or any of the words associated with it. I asked one of the older boys in the neighborhood what the bishop was talking about and he explained it to me. I had never ever thought about doing something like that. The older boy told me that at first nothing would happen but if I kept at it, it would feel so good. I tried it several times and all I got were blisters.

At my next bishop interview, once again the bishop wanted me to confess to something I knew nothing about but it did make me want to try it again (I had matured) and boy did I like it.

I really can say thank you to the bishop for making me curious as to what masturbation is.

It is funny to think the bishops starts the youth on a life long love of masturbation and then wants to make it evil later on.

It was also the bishop that got me to wondering what all the fuss was about with girls and guys.

I first masturbated at 4. Yes 4. I discovered pressure and rubbing technique, particularly if I had a full bladder. I had no clue I was masturbating or that it would be seen as evil. What nonsense to call it sinful. Of course, being under 8, it wasn't sinful technically I suppose.

Yep. I think I figured it out around 8 or 9. Also had no clue that's what it was or that it was "bad." I didn't even feel guilt about that because I didn't associate what I was doing with that thing they said was so bad.

Being a girl, I don't remember being asked about it. But I do remember my baptismal interview. We were converts and I was 12. Mom sat in on my interview with the ward mission leader - a real jerk, I found out later. He said he had to ask if I'd done any of the following, then reeled of a list of things I had no clue about. I told him I didn't know what they were and he said not to worry about it. I was so young that I probably hadn't done any of them. He said my mom could explain it later, if I had questions.

So of course when we got in the car, I asked my mom what all those things were. She got all flustered and said even she didn't know what all of them were but she thought one of them was having sex with animals. That's how I found out there are people who have sex with animals. I was puzzled what "Master Bed" was all about. What was so crazy about this bed or room.
This was pre internet days. So, unfortunately, I found out the evils in the black Mormon Doctrine book. Freaky! That just sounded like an evil witch book now that I think about it. Book of spells! Haha

My daughter has been doing this since she was TWO when she discovered her five-point car seat harness rubbed her in a certain way. (Aagh! Surprised mommy here.)

Over the years prior to that I had been working to unravel all of my own sexual confusion & religious guilt, so by the time my daughter began doing this I had already thought so many things through regarding how we would teach our children about sexuality. I just wasn't expecting to begin with anyone at age TWO! Hahaha

Anyway they won't be raised in the church but I'm ensuring that we regard sexuality in a very healthy way so my kids may grow up comfortable in their bodies, minds, and souls.

Each person is a whole, complete human, capable of many wondrous things. Life is to be celebrated!

I had a friend in Middle School joke about masturbating. The thought didn't leave my mind and eventually I tried it. I felt very guilty.

I believed it was a terrible problem. I cried many nights trying to overcome this 'addiction'. I could never go more then a couple of weeks. I remember even making a commitment to my future children that I wouldn't do it again. I think I made it three weeks. I remember staying up all night crying and praying.

Now I realize it's normal. I hate the church.

It also taught me that the priesthood has no ability to see into my soul. I lied every time, I wondered if they knew. I don't hide my emotions well, so I bet a few probably suspected, but I knew the right answer was "NO!"

When I was about 12, I discovered this amazing thing. If I touched myself, I would get very excited and then have this amazing feel. It was great, until my mom caught me and gave me the guilt trip about how horrible it was and what an awful sin.

I tried not to do it, but it's very hard to get away from your own body, especially with raging teen hormones. So, I still did it, but I felt guilty.

To make matters worse, I would have fantasies about men. I had never seen porn other than underwear ads in Sears. It just came naturally. Then SWK told me in his wonderful book "It's a miracle if you're forgiven" that masturbation caused me to be gay. OMG, not only was I doing something bad, I was perverting myself to be a homo!

In short, it was the biggest mind screw a teenaged closet case could face. You are not supposed to touch yourself, and because you do, you like boys instead of girls, and God hated both.

Yeah I too was riddled with guilt, constantly making deals with god. I dont think I ever made it much more than 2 weeks.

In highschool there was a kid whose last name was bates. All his buddies called him master bates. I just pretended like I didnt get the joke.

Very destructive to me in my youth, always trying to stop or get out of my mind, and yet it provided stress relief from the constant pressures and nonsense being put on me by Mormondum. What a dichotomy to say the least. Satin has his hold on me and I was evil. I see now that Church was evil/harmful in it's practice/teachings and I was a normal young man.

When I was 12, I was asked by my bishop if I masturbated. My repsonse?

"What's that?"

He turned bright red and said, "You don't do it, nevermind." I think even he knew asking was inappropriate. He's still TBM 18 years later, though.

I was very slow to the whole masturbation thing. I was such a good boy that I didn't start until my body forced it on me. My version of wet dreams was me waking up and finding myself naked and stroking myself.
I felt so guilty. I had only the definition from the youth's handbook to explain what I was doing, but I could not stop it from happening. I eventually confessed and my parents suggested tighter pants at night, more strenuous activities, and my bishop offered to help me by allowing me to call him at any time of night. Like that was going to happen!
I felt guilty about it until 2 years into my marriage when I finally didn't give a f--- anymore.

I think in all honesty that he felt for me and my guilt and that he really wanted to help me with my recovery. He was just so blinded by his feelings for the church that he nor my parents considered the absurdity of the situation. For my parents it was a hope to prevent me from slipping away from them and into Satan's grasp. You need to remember the complete fantasy mindset that these people are in. They are in their minds fighting a literal war for the souls of men.
They still need to be brought out to reality, but I don't think all of them actually want to know about anybody else's sex life, they just get pushed into it because their higher ups tell them that they need to help youth deal with masturbation and they follow blindly. That's the mindset we are dealing with and the mindset we need to break!
