I fondly (?) remember the Saturday after Conference when my old ward hosted their own conference. I was asked to give the opening prayer. I did being a good Mormon girl. Not for the first time, I wondered why I was there. So I went three blocks down the street to the espresso place and used my free agency to gulp down a mocha. Not such a bad day after all. That was my last church appearance.

A few years back I visited a real hellfire Baptist church a few times. Everytime-and I mean four or five times-this scrawny little twerp would tell me that he saved ten people at a nearby truckstop. A scrawny man next to those big truckers? I don't think so. I went elsewhere. I wonder if every church has it's repetitive denizens.

Another reason why I left...I have always been a self-confessed Starbucks junkie. I go there nearly everyday to write and I drink huge amounts of green tea. Occasionally a decaf mocha (my system can only handle a little caffeine). Starbucks was my guilty pleasure for awhile and now it's not. Yay!

The reason I left is simple. Shockingly it wasn't garments or supposedly secret rituals. It was the fact that whatever I did was the subject of gossip. No secrecy in the church. Not even the temple ceremonies which are now on You Tube. Yet when I left everyone knew about my decision but they shunned me and wouldn't speak to me. I'm sad in a way but I'm certainly better off Catholic.
