No way to know where the grandkids were - maybe even regulars and the host was just glad to see someone else for a change. Regardless - good for your daughter. Was it mormon visiting teaching or something else?

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/sep/11/sapiens-brief-history-humankind-yuval-noah-harari-review It follows humanity from hunter gatherer to the present day and makes an excellent case for why humans sometimes invent gods and religions.

We left when our kids were 9,7, and 5. While in we worried about our kids growing up to be less than straight arrows. After leaving, one more son joined the family. They all turned out great, tonight for dinner we are making chicken and potatoes for the second son who we are visiting. He has 2 sons of his own. We stepped in to help with household management for a little bit and give him and

Drdad and I just returned from a visit to his formerly LDS siblings in Idaho. Not one of his parents' offspring are even on the roles any more.

It says "Hate has no home here," in English, Arabic, Cambodian, Portuguese, Spanish and several other languages I don't know, but that are spoken by the home health workers who pass though this neighborhood. Not exactly on your topic - but nice to see you Amyjo!

Not sure what to say that isn't trite. Thank you for sharing this terribly human tale. It is really and truly awesome that he had the roommate time in Orem that you were able to provide. His death is not your fault, but that doesn't make it any less tragic. (((((((Virtual Hugs to you)))))))))))))

Anyone in any religion has to accept a certain amount of cognitive dissonance. The essence of faith often involves the suspension of disbelief. Certainly this is required of anyone actively believing in mormonism. Once you have accepted that its three principle scriptures (in addition to the Bible) are what mormonism’s founder states them to be, you need no longer worry about cognitive disso

meme that says they don't worship JS and so on. I have a canned response that I use when I see it, but this link looks way more fun! Speaking of pioneers, my spouse, Drdad, descends from the Martin Handcart company and is a first cousin, twice removed to the current mormon profit. Such a royal lineage!

My church experience today was almost like being a mormon in the 1970s. One church meeting in the morning. Lunch at home and then another church meeting in the evening. Thankfully, it is only the timing that reminded me of the “olden days.” Our morning worship service included a sermon from Rev. Ellen about what Jesus means to her: http://www.uuchelmsford.org/worship/current-sermons/se

The Sunday after Thanksgiving is usually lighter in attendance, but there was still a good sized crowd present. I was able to sit with Drdad with oldest and youngest sons on either side of us. Usually Oldest and I are sitting with the choir, but the choir had the day off. One of the young ladies we have watched grow up is a vocal performance major. As she is home for the holiday she gave a co

The Sunday before Thanksgiving is always more ritual than sermon. All the choirs, even the 4 to 7 year olds and the bell choir, performed (separately). Members of the congregation brought nonperishable items for the local food bank (or in our case, last minute cash for the food bank!) Anyone who chooses to bakes bread for the service. The bread should have an accompanying story. Our minist

It was kind of like Christmas Eve at First Parish. There are a lot of community people who consider First Parish “their church” even though their attendance is reliably minimal. Usually on Christmas Eve or at times when they just feel like they want to go to church. Many of them were there on SUnday as well as several new comers. We had a guest minister preaching, Rev. Ellen was there m

Other than finding this during her research - did she supply any commentary. You say she is writing an argumentative paper. What is she arguing?

I haven’t been to church for the last 2 weeks. And it is not a big deal, nor would it be if I hadn’t been for the last 2 years. Nobody, except the other 2nd soprano who had to go it alone when I missed our performance on the 23rd, actually said “Oh, we missed you!” On the first Sunday of November, we light a candle in memory of those in our congregation, or who are connected to the m

I married at 19 and produced 3 sons in four years. I have no concept of being a single independent young adult. I thought I was doing the will of godalmighty. Fortunately, my spouse was, and is, amazing. He would call me from work to ask what I wanted for dinner. He wanted a heads up in case he needed me to thaw something or turn the oven on before he arrived. When he got home, the kids

It seems like they have this vision of what a truly christ-centered organization might be and they look ONLY to the ways in which they see that mormonism is that. When it is not that, they forgive it. When a policy change is announced they reply, "when we know better, we do better." They may even be lobbying for women to hold the priesthood. They certainly are in favor of same se

She is one of those interesting mormons who keeps on with the faith. There are a lot of "liberal mormons" out there. For them it seems mormonism is or can be what they think it should be somehow.
