Mike, we have been fortunate financially. We are not wealthy. We just have enough to retire. My health took a bit of a turn with having been hospitalized with sepsis last year and now arthritis wreaking havoc on my hands. It was time to stop working full time. I may give up the clarinet as it becomes rather difficult to play classical. Jazz or simpler pieces are still doable, but not for l

That is funny Jerry. As you know, my wife and I stayed at that Marriott while visiting San Francisco a few weeks ago using some points I had accumulated when I was working. We had a glass of wine while we sat right next to that statue. I liked its whimsical design. It is clearly not something that will be placed on the Provo campus.

I retired in April of this year. This morning I enjoyed a cup of coffee on the front porch watching the sun rise through the trees. I later practiced for tonight's rehearsal of the woodwind ensemble I play in with faculty and students. I went for a walk in the wetlands that I can meander to from my home. There is a nice paved trail that is about 2.5 miles long which is perfect for a short wal

caaron - You have nothing to offer us here with your posts. You are certainly free to lurk and read all you want. There are Mormon sites for you if you wish to post your thoughtlessness. This site is for those who have discovered the fraud of Mormonism and are adjusting to normal life.

I believe azsteve is correct. The doctrine of 'worlds without end' is simply winked at amongst the Mormon faithful. They know it is still doctrine. It is simply kept quiet in public discourse. If the concept of eternal progression is dumped by the church, it would be a radical transformation to be like other Christian denominations. The temple symbolism becomes meaningless. Eternal marria

Welcome! Yes, what you are going through is normal. Extricating oneself from a cult is painful. It is an emotional roller coaster. I was mad for months. My mind seemed to be consumed by Mormonism while learning about the deception. One day, as I was driving to work, it suddenly struck me that I had not thought of Mormonism during the commute. It lessened daily after that. We are all diffe

Actually this is the easiest. I open the thread I want to archive with Edge then print to PDF and keep the size 100%. I Have a PDF editor for a litle cleanup and add a few notes like TSCC=this so called church for those not familiar with our acronyms. I am automating the insertion of the archived PDF files next along with an improved site format. The bb will stay as is. One step at a time.

I brought up our budget previously. See http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1873728,1873728#msg-1873728 In the discussion was the question, "What will happen with the site upon my imminent demise?" Concrete Zipper told me today he would take over. I will have the paperwork set up so it should be seamless. We have a plan. Funny how retirement is keeping me busy. My plans f

caaron - You are obviously not here to learn. You sophomoric apologetics will not work with this crowd. There are plenty of other sites for you to visit.

You wrote "...Plus I think that most people who drink and smoke are very aware of their situation and wish they could quit. But it’s hard. It’s addictive." That is complete non-sense. I just spent a couple of hours today with a good friend where we had 2 beers each. That's all. It was enjoyable to get together to talk. Alcohol was a small part of getting together today. An

Amos90 does an excellent job of explaining how many of us ended up as atheists. It was never intended on my part. It just happened.

Thanks for posting this. I am unable to imagine trying to force change to Mormonism from the inside. Once we realized it was pure bunk, my whole family left. There are many approaches to leaving Mormonism. I wish him well.

One thing that we all have learned that it is OK to question. We are all learning together. In over 20 years of running this site, my constant advice to newbies is, if possible, to take a year or two off religion entirely. Read good books. Spend weekends with the family and/or friends on fun activities. Volunteer with groups that are of interest to you and help the community. Be more ph

The site will always allow anonymity with no requirement to donate. If either were to ever change, I would not associate with the site. In other words, there will never be a tiered membership. We have great admin and tech volunteers who quietly work in the background to make this place run as smooth as possible.

My wife is staying at our daughter's condo tonight so I have the house to myself today. I will be cranking up the background rhythms and chord patterns and practicing my saxophones and clarinet. The clarinet is not loud, but I can blast out the alto and tenor sax. I know the constant repeating of some riffs can be annoying so I use this opportunity to not only repeat until I am satisfied and p

Do you know someone or group who would wish to take it over? I get tons of criticism for its old design and layout. It is kept simple, but it is terribly dated. A few people offered to update and did not follow through.

Just an update. We had a fund raising in the Spring (2016) and are in good shape until next Spring (2017). We currently have $2,198.00 in the Paypal account. We are not asking for donations at this time. I spent $100.00 on some web development software and learning it now for updates. We use tech support frequently as the database is large and we are rarely charged. We are on a dedicat

The Watchtower claims the light of the Bible grows brighter every year. That is their reasoning for their ever changing doctrines. Cults are all similar.

The fact that you ask this question should be a BIG red flag to you. Only cults and abusive relationships create the feeling of "what will happen to me if I leave?" I frequently recommend folks like you to visit ex-JW sites. You will find they have the same exact question in their minds. Life is so much better after Mormonism. It is good to be free of such fears. Please po

The answer, it depends on circumstances. If Sweetwater 420 (local IPA from Atlanta) is on tap and I am going to have a meaty meal, it goes well with the food. After working in the yard and it is hot, a cold Coors is fine - something low calorie. The recent addition of brew houses have made beer tastings fun. I have several friends where we get together 2x a month or so to try different

This has gotten a bit nasty. It has little to do with Recovery from Mormonism. I certainly don't agree with what she did.
