Friday afternoon I ran into a friend at the gym. After our workout we walked on a path outside for about an hour talking. We got into the topic on personality traits and I mentioned I was a strong INTJ. When I described the characteristics he felt he was identical. He was not familiar with the concept. I disagreed as he is quite social and a fun outgoing person in a group. I tend to hide

I was not involved in seminary like kenc. The lessons as a whole in the entire church curriculum, which includes Sunday school, priesthood and relief society are essentially contentless. The shear boredom led us to being somewhat less active until we finally dropped out as our local leaders were and still are such assholes. We studied on our own after we dropped out of activity and discovered

I have been late in updating. My playing in a few bands and trouble with my eyesight have slowed me down a bit here. I have close to 100 I wish to archive and organize. There are just a few from recent posts. I particularly like Nightingale's brief bio. There are some Benson posts too. If you see item that you feel should be more prominent please post the link to me at erickett@wingnet.net

I believe you may be making the mistake of assuming Uchtdorf is a decent person who cares about others. Those who rise to the top of Mormon pyramid only care about protecting the corporation. They have been thoroughly vetted. Many of us have experienced the ugliness of Mormon leaders as we left the organization or while we were yet active. You are apparently a compassionate person and believe

This article is actually good news. Though this not an 'official' magazine, it is admitting to a problem of folks leaving the corporation. The 8 items are essentially cult control tactics to keep one in the cult mindset - to keep one from thinking on their own. Just change some of the terminology and those 8 items work just as well in the Watchtower or Scientology to keep their members inline.

We are not stopping off topic posts!! This has become a community and I enjoy them too. We just want to reduce them a few percent. People here trust the advice or at least value the advice they receive here on off topic subjects due to a long time interaction with other posters. I don't wish for that to go away. Just trying to find a balance. We just had a rough end to a drought here.

Congrats! The come back to church pamphlet was disgusting. Perhaps they are not using that anymore with emailed resignations.

The limit of 60 seems to work well. 30 was too short.

Yes, we have received a few emails regarding that issue. It has been slower here over the election and holiday period and now we are picking up again. We will be more diligent in removing seriously off topic threads. We let them slide for awhile. We had an off topic board once, but it got abused. If one of the new admin volunteers that I have yet to contact wants to handle - we could try

Baptism for the dead is essentially the same as a death bed repentance. I often wonder where my rational mind was while being an active Mormon.

I told this story once to a couple of friends after having a beer or two. I live 2 miles from a massively large Baptist Church. It dwarfs other buildings in the community. I was aware that the long time minister there was suffering from cancer. One day as I was driving home from work the huge marquee in front of the church had the message "He is cured. It is a miracle!" I thought t

This is very much on my mind. I turn 65 on Friday Nov. 25th. Sigh... I retired in April of this year. One of things I did was plan on how I would be busy in retirement. I play in a few bands and orchestras and get called to fill in at times when there is a need in other groups. The practicing, playing and now writing music is a great retirement hobby for me. I started on that path 11 ye

I copied the recipe. DW is sick with the flu. I am going to try this. Looks simple. It has been a miserable week and these waffles sound good. Not to hijack your thread... On top of the miserable week a long term co-worker died on Tuesday at the age of 61 - sudden heart attack. I had worked with him over 30 years at two different firms. He was an extraordinary individual. He made work

This kind of post is great! It lets others know they can make the journey out of the corporation as well. It does not always go smoothly. In fact, is seems exiting rarely goes smoothly unless the whole family leaves together. The end result of leaving, regardless of the pain in the process, is that a whole new world opens before you. I am excited when a young person such as yourself is freed

That is precisely why this site is here. It is a shock. Some folks can just walk away without giving it too much thought. Many of us were devastated as we had devoted much of lives to the fraud. Welcome and read all you can. There is usually a desire to immediately blurt out what you have been learning which can cause friction at home. Take it slow. Welcome.

A co-worker years ago had a stroke. He was in his early 60's. Prior to the stroke he was friendly, easy to get along with and an excellent electrician who would do anything asked of him at work. You could always count on him to complete a project. He was and still is a devout Christian. Now, he is mean, never smiles and gripes constantly. Which version of this man will be the basis of ho

Since early Monday of this week we have had 493002 reads on this board. That is 493002 distinct clicks - nearly a half a million reads in less than 4 days just on the board. An example: http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1905359 is over 1000 reads or views since Monday and it was on Steve Young taking a wife.

The Tennessean is rather marginal in quality. Whenever I see a link pointing back to it, I have learned to ignore it and I live in Tennessee. They will print almost anything. The story is probably true. The value of the story is another issue. Cults love to promote themselves.

Thanks. That was an excellent link. It has been the hassle of dealing with this individual that wears me out. I was busy with my sick daughter and he kept demanding immediate action to delete a post from 2014. He kept upping the threats. There are assholes like this that we have to deal with from time to time. Two years ago I received similar threats. I deleted a thread that was factual

I just answered a few emails where I was threatened to be sued due to a post on this board. I just deleted the whole thread that was the cause of the threat. I know some here take a cavalier approach to what they post without considering I am the one that must suffer the consequences of their actions. Fortunately our admins here protect the site and me with their diligence. It is still no

This week: "Average successful requests per day: 160,418" Three weeks ago we were at 250,000+ before I left to help my mother in Florida. The distinct hosts served is currently at 35,000 this week. That is 35,000 unique IPs have been here. We average between 37,000 to 40,000 so that is down a bit. I believe the election has had many occupied. I, for one, want to take a break

Good news. Remember, your performance is for yourself - any friends or family showing up is just a bonus. Don't fret over family not participating in what makes you happy. This is your life.
