From the short obituary: 'He loved to drink coffee and smoke cigarettes.' This was a crazy obituary that appeared over the weekend in my small city. I can only guess his family was not too fond of him. I became a bit depressed reading that short bio. A life wasted. I hope my life will have been meaningful to those that have known me. In the end we are nothing but stories. Hopefully our

It was over 20 years ago that we attended a Mormon funeral. A young man, 21, was killed when the vehicle he was riding in overturned. We were friends of the family when we were Mormons so we attended and sat in the back. A high councilman gave an opening prayer. I don’t remember all the words but I do remember the ones stated here: “blah blah blah… we are grateful to be here today… b

It was a DUI. He won't be able to pay the charges for certain out of his own pocket. That is why I do not expect to get my $350 back.

DW and I knew some Evangelical couples years ago and would occasionally get together for dinner or just hang out. They never successfully recruited us to Christianity, yet we still enjoyed each others company. The years have passed and we have maintained friendship with just one couple who live up north and will come visit us next month. Out of the blue last week we get a call that one of t

There is a 24 hour gym I use 3-4 times per week near my home. It is a great little gym with few folks exercising between 10:30 AM and 1 PM. The only problem is that it blasts (at times) Christian music. I am grateful for blue tooth headphones to listen to podcasts or music of my choice.

Last night I woke from a short dream where I was on a second mission to Finland. The real one was 50 years ago. How can such an event - two years of knocking on doors, have affected me so deeply? In the dream I realized I could go immediately back to the US and had the financial means to get a flight. The dream seemed only last about 30 seconds. It woke me and I had some trouble falling bac

This should be given to all potential converts. It will scare the desire to join right out of them. Here is an example: 'c. Encourage giving daily personal service at home, church, and in the community.' How is that even possible? I am retired and could not perform personal service in all three areas in a single day, if I am reading that correctly. Nothing in here about hobbies an

I live in TN. 30+ years ago I was training some operators on a new system for loading logs and doing bark removal in a computerized system at a papermill. Not particularly difficult programming wise nor difficult for an operator to use. However, one of the operators was extremely nervous operating the system via a mouse or a track ball. His hand was visibly shaking. I asked what was wrong.

I believe this is the same group that promoted their produce with tfg. Tfg stated that we should drink bleach as a cure for Covid at a press conference after some recent correspondence and/or meetings with these frauds. Crazy time.

Here is an excerpt: 'Church donations and tithing in Australia are not tax-deductible unless the church is also a registered charity, according to the country's tax code. While The Church of Jesus Christ has multiple charitable arms across the globe, the religion itself is not a recognized charity in the country. To avoid having its members pay those taxes, the newspaper alleged the Church

A book I read early on in my exit from the corporation was 'Influence - The Psychology of Persuasion' by Robert Cialdini. I have kept the book on a book shelf all these years. It is an excellent counter cult book, though it probably was never intended to be such. It has a chapter where the author was given an opportunity to visit a Mormon temple opening near his home. He saw it as a rare even

When we visited Pennsylvania, locals told us the outbuildings of the Amish farms that look a bit like an outhouse are where they store their cell phones. So they use current technology. They just like to hide the fact. We have Mennonites here in East TN. We occasionally buy some produce from them at their market. They also have a corner at the market where they display their brochures. O

At the last stake conference I attended many years ago, the stake president publicly scolded a member for not wearing his garments while cutting the grass at home. The stake president, who lived near by, saw this reprobate member slacking in Tennessee summer heat in a t-shirt and shorts. The horror. The only thought I had when I heard this was that the stake president was an @ss. Adherence to

I may search for a talk I listened to a few years ago and link it here. An African liberal Christian minister spoke on how Christian missionaries and the takeover of some countries governments, such as Uganda, by Christian fanatics (mainly from the USA), have done more destruction to African than many of its internal wars.

Tennessee is similar. If you destroy a highway guardrail (your fault) you pay for its restoration.

Sigh. The similar Ark museum in Kentucky is doing quite well. They too have dinosaurs on the ark. I know it is crazy, but I when I am on the college campuses in East TN there are always a few students wearing Ark shirts or jackets. Evangelicals I am acquainted with love going there. They even got tax money/loans to build the damn thing as a tourist attraction. Christian schools send bus loa

This is a huge loss to our little community. She did so much even with her declining health. Her husband wrote an email to us on how much the people here meant to her. We have met so many wonderful people who post and moderate on Recovery from Mormonism. She was great. A sad time for us.

I have been on vacation and others do the admin work. You wrote: 'After 20 years of research, I wrote A Song of Humanity: a science-based alternative to the world’s scriptures as my answer to the misinformation in...' To me it sounds like another religion or religion lite. It appears to be promoting another faith that is against the intent of this site. You can email it to erickettx@gm

Thanks for posting onthedownlow. Over the years I have talked to folks who view Mormonism as a quaint and rather benign religion which has teenage missionaries running around on bikes. They are unaware of the damage the corporation does to families such as yours. The absurd beliefs destroy some of the cognitive skills normal adults should possess. They lose the capability of thinking clearly

I enjoy listening to podcasts while working on projects around the house or at the gym with headphones. This particular podcast was interesting to me as Sasha is the daughter of Carl Sagan. https://onlysky.media/podcast/sasha-sagan-pinn-drop-podcast/ Daughter of astronomer/educator Carl Sagan and writer/producer Ann Druyan, Sasha was raised with a sense of awe and wonder about the majest

I believe Susan I/S is correct. Vallow can and has been quite an embarrassment to the corporation. I am a male and do not see Vallow as attractive. There is an underlying ugliness or anger that is hard to describe that is hidden behind that dark smile. It has to be damage control.

Wow Thanks Will watch for sure. I think back when my wife was ill and I worked two jobs for a year, engineering supervisor during the day and moonlight work for an electrical firm at night, so we could pay our bills and tithing. Ugh. They did not need my money and I did not need to sacrifice life I did. It was all for a fraud. It makes me angry to have been manipulated to give them 10% and

This is what the Watchtower does. It claims the light of the Bible grows brighter year by year, which is their rationalization for changes in doctrine. There is always an excuse for irresolute eternal truths.
