Nephilim. It's right there in the Bible: Genesis 6:1-4 1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet

I wouldn't trust any of the commercial DNA tests. With marketing involved there's too much incentive to lower the accuracy threshold in favor of a better "spiel."

At least no flat-earthers chair any House or Senate committes--yet.

I was once discussing with a flat-earther the fact that I can see the sun set (ya know, go below the horizon) and that it doen't change apparent size in the sky as it would if it just went far away. I pointed out that I see this regularly with my own eyes. He didn't care. He, enthusiastically, kept telling me to watch some Youtube video which supposedly shows it getting smaller. So

That would only work if they cared about their members. They only care that their members are doing good things for the Church. If someone's leaving, that contradicts all the testimonies about how we ALL love the Church and KNOW that it's true. So they can't help the process along, or even acknowledge that it's a respectable option.

Mormons now make the distinction between "true" and "historical." Many scholarly types recognize that the Book of Mormon is not historical--the civilizations described in the book didn't really exist. But they consider it "true scripture" that is inspired of God. In that scenario Joseph Smith is an inspired author who puts a lot of "spiritual truths

No one would say that unless there was stuff that would make you uncomfortable. If there's nothing to make you uncomfortable, why mention it? No one ever says, "there's nothing at the grocery store that would make you uncomfortable." That's because there's nothing at the grocery store that would make you uncomfortable. This is preemptive gas-lighting. They're telling you

The office of Church Patriarch was hereditary, and that meant that the leaders didn't have much choice in who was put into that office. My guess is it was eliminated because they didn't want someone in power whom they couldn't choose from scratch. As usual it tends to come down to control.

Back in my day when we'd do a session at the temple we'd pantomime slitting our throats and cutting out our guts. And we'd go through the veil by being hugged in the "Five Points of Fellowship" by the veil-worker with bad breath (and, as I've heard from some female exmos, an iron rod in his pocket--either that or he was feeling the spirit). Also in the prayer circle we'd u

Well over 40 years ago I was a TBM (I stopped believing 40 years ago this last spring). I recall buying some stuff at one of those "survival" type stores where a lot of Mormons got their food storage to take up space in their basements. In my defense, the stuff I bought was stuff I actually used right away. We ground our own wheat etc. I recall what the talk would be abo

"theism" = belief in a god or gods "a" = prefix meaning "without." Warren Buffett qualifies as an atheist.

Science denial went bigtime with Creationism. Many government leaders (the current Vice-President among them) decried that the findings of science were being taught in our schools. "What harm" they'd ask, "is there in teaching both 'models' side by side and letting the kids make up their minds." There seemed to be no real harm to society if people had a mistaken v

As an unworthy anti-Mormon who had been instrumental in bringing others to disbelieve Mormonism, I went through the Temple. At my brothers wedding I shook hands with the GA who married him. I was reminded of all those stories of how they had to stop the ceremony because of an "impression" that the leader got that someone, SOMEONE, was there unworthily. Then, after a silen

Mormonism is about installing "buttons" in you from infancy. You are conditioned in no uncertain terms exactly how to think, feel, and act. This conditioning is still there after your higher cognitive functions finally realize that their claims are bogus. The "buttons" are still there and can be pushed by just about anything. Things that are simple actions for th

The Church dates the flood to around 2400 B.C.E. I like to point out that both the Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations flourished long before this date, during this date and long after this date without being in the least bothered by the flood. And that their written records (in different languages--so much for the Tower-of-Babel story) of these eras have survived for us to read
