Is there anything to the Mormon claim that the Uto-Aztecan language family is related to Hebrew? I have only studied Hebrew on an elementary level, so I can't debunk it. Does anyone here know what's going on with this claim?

40 years ago when I moved to my state, everyone knew what a Mormon was. Now everyone says: "What is a Mormon?"

I seem to be flashing back to my teen/young adulthood when I encountered and joined the LDS church. It was the Kimball era, and there was a lot of emphasis on the Lamanites and their "blossoming as the rose". I believed back then that much of what Mormonism was all about was aiding Native Americans and Polynesians in their big blossoming. I was sure that hordes of AmerIndians, especiall

I agree with you that it will not last. the word "Mormon" was taboo a couple of times in the many years that I was a member. They will never be able to abolish it, so they might as well accept it's existence.

I doubled down for a few months, but then I finally got it. It really hurt to realize that my tithing was wasted. In the last few years before I left, SLC was grabbing for the fast offering money, too. You can't even try to help people without being conned by the Mormon "authorities".

Back in the 70's, I remember them talking about it a little. I was told to get food storage with ammunition in it.

I bear my testimony that Jaredites were the first Native Americans. Source: the ultra-prophetic mind of Joseph Smith. Who needs Science when you have a revelator who writes bad fiction?

This sounds like Gnosticism. Gnostics taught that you needed "special Knowledge", which was only to be had through them. Gnosticism has made a comeback, in different forms. Jane Fonda reads and follows the Gnostic Gospels, because conservative Christians told her that she needed to give up her Abortion Rights activities if she wanted to be a Christian. She had had a "Jesus"

I remember hearing your story on the Ex-Mormon Foundation channel. I also read it on Google. I joined the LDS church in 1974. Many of us Boomers were attracted to the Mormons in the 70's, which was a time of great religious excitement for the young.

DNA, Archaeology, Linguistics. My husband is Native American. He actually looks more like the Japanese than like the Middle-Easterners. We used to think: "Oh, they are PART Hebrew. The rest is Asian." Then I discovered the "99.6%" figure from that Australian Geneticist (can't remember his name--I used to follow his blog to learn more about genetics). Every now and then, so

I remember the attitude (among some, not all) that if you had been valiant enough in the Pre-existence, you wouldn't be having these kinds of problems in mortality. This wasn't just for Black people. This attitude has faded a lot,but it was once pretty strong. Valiant spirits get born to good, secure families. The doctrine of Pre-existence used to make me feel very depressed when things weren't go

The Three Nephites paid me a visit today and delivered this message. God's True Church has been abandoned by too many! America is being punished because she failed to keep her True Church together. Italy was punished because her One Untrue Church stood in the way of the True One. China was punished because of the flat nose curse that Brigham Young talked about. If they had been more loyal in t

It's a huge letdown when the love-bombing fizzles away. I had the feeling of having been used as another number achieved for the church, but I hung in because the "holy ghost" (Mormon version) had "testified" to me that the church was "true". How naive I was. I had no idea of the workings of rats in our society. But I was only a teen.

The wards in my area were good to adopted children, as long as they weren't Black. But over the years since 1978, the attitude towards Blacks did gradually change. In my old ward, Black immigrant people are the ones coming into the church. Nobody else is interested. They used to get Native looking Hispanic converts, but they aren't interested anymore now that the DNA and Archaeological informatio

When I joined the church in the 70's, Zion was a popular topic. It was going to happen soon! We would all be marching to Zion and building a classless society. In the meantime, tithing and welfare farms were moving us closer to that blissful state. I believed it with all my heart. My heart broke when through the years, the church moved more and more in the opposite direction. They shamed the p

I remember having to tell my kids that their father and I had made a big mistake, for it wasn't true after all. They were all inactive anyway, but my daughter had believed somewhat and felt kind of sad about it.

I was an introverted teenager with emotional problems due to my highly dysfunctional family. No way was I close to being a golden convert, but they were desperate for numbers. I remember feeling depressed because the church ended up pushing for whole families and discounting introverted single females--at least males could hold the priesthood and thus be of some value. They glorified mothers and

Just a few years ago, a YouTube LDS convert put out a video glorofying Cleon Skousen. I guess he became a right wing convert. He has disappeared from YouTube, so I wonder if he went back to being Catholic. He was a devout Catholic who almost became a Monk before Mormonism grabbed him.

I began lurking here around 2005, but my testimony was strong. I found out about the DNA problem, but I rationalized instead of doing honest research to discover how DNA actually works. From 2005 to 2014, I learned a lot of disturbing information. But I did the Mormon cartwheels to keep believing. In 2014 I did a little research and got a couple of cracks in my shelf, but still couldn't believe t

The guy said that he is not making a decision of logic. He realizes that the facts don't add up, but he is running on his feelings and what he regards as spiritual influence. I didn't listen to all of it; I skipped around a little. But I heard enough to know (and he knows) that he is running on emotions, not intellect. John Dehlin does sound like he wants back in the church, but they won't hav

Thirty years ago, Enviromentalists were saying that Florida (and some other coastal areas) were going to be under water in about thirty years. I have been hearing these predictions forever. I remember the Ice Age before global warming became the thing. Scientists were sure of that pending Ice Age. I do believe in being enviromentally conscientious and doing things to help, such as reducing plasti

I joined the church as a teen. Through the years I was fascinated by all kinds of Mormon literature that later turned out to be Christian rewrites that Mormons borrowed and adapted for their own doctrines. I had thought it was the Holy Spirit!
