I'm sorry for your loss. 3 so close together is hard. Anyway, the not eating or drinking the last few days before death is pretty common. I had to go through it with my father a couple of years ago. I thought it was inhumane to withhold food and water, but the doctors (who have a lot more experience dealing with patients in end of life scenarios) assured me this is normal and the body sto

I'm friends with a few people in a few wards in the UK. Every single one has reported their wards or branches are in decline, some are struggling to survive as units and should be merged into neighbouring units, but the stake presidents are under great pressure to not loose units as it puts their stake in jeopardy. I have no doubt there are a couple of wards in the UK that have experienced

Based upon that reasoning, Noah went to the New World and the Jaredites came back to the Old World. So modern historians have their New/Old worlds mixed up. Or so it seems to me.

I'm actually in the US now. Left Perth when I was 3 years old, so I have no recollection of Oz, or being a Mormon there. My youth was spent in Scotland, where I was a good little Mormon.

I would say it is a complete and utter waste of time to complain about an arrogant missionary to the mission home. It's what they do best. I confess that when I was on my mission I would up the arrogance

Yeah, the Mormon church is slowly dying in Scotland. It's entertaining to see them slowly shutter and sell off their buildings.

I had fun with a small town post office where they expected all the country dwellers to use the PO Box system. It all worked fine until I needed my Green Card sent to my house. The US Immigration folks would only use the USPS, and they would only deliver to a physical street address, not a PO Box. the small Post Office refused to hold the mail from the immigration people for me as it was aga

Your SP was just parroting the party line. The facts in the UK are that the Scottish Mormons did more temple work in the London temple than anyone else, except maybe those that lived very close. Their reward for such outstanding temple work was to be ignored by Hinckley so he could build his ego temple in the North of England in Preston/Chorley. I have no reason to believe what your SP s

That's growth when viewed through a spiritual mindset. 53 -> 5 + 3 = 8 36 -> 3 + 6 = 9 9 is more than 8, therefore, growth!!!!

This was a few years ago (late 80's) Dundee Scotland had 2 strong, thriving wards, they split into 3 to try and encourage growth. they recombined into 2 wards a few short years later. There was zero meaningful growth from any of the 3 wards, and a net loss from the 3rd ward that was formed from part of the existing 2. Edit to add, the 2 remaining wards have both shrunk since then as well.

I understand that. Mormons do not want a direct approach with troubling topics. Perhaps he can casually bring up troubling items over the dinner table. Bring up an item that was in seminary that week and discuss with the family the problems he sees with that particular issue. He also do it in a way that says he hasn't taken a firm conclusion, so he is looking for ideas and suggestions from

There is nothing as scary to a Mormon than a wavering Mormon / ex-Mormon explaining the facts of why they doubt / have left. Perhaps if your son were to study a little on the problems with the church, enough to articulate calmly to his mother why he doesn't believe, then maybe she'll back off to protect her own "bullet proof" testimony? As long as she thinks he is just a quitter a

I recently discussed the accuracy and truth of the bible with my JW mother. Her responses boiled down to, the bible is true because it says so in the bible. I was convinced.

I don't think the church carries much, if any debt. I also think if the squeeze came, they would sell assets outside the US, generating profit, and reduce operating costs, easily remaining afloat while retreating back into Utah. It would look like a retreat to normal people, but would be sold as the sifting of the wheat and tares before Jesus comes down to reward his faithful Mormon followers

I have a recent number from Gravesend Ward. Attendance there was about 28 a couple of weeks ago. This was after they'd taken a chunk of Gillingham to boost Gravesend. I'm not sure it is going to survive as a ward because they are nowhere near the requirement of 28 MP holders to be a ward.

So most of the converts from that vintage left the country. Realistically you are talking about the last 70 years, when immigration policy was scrapped and UK members were told t
