Yep. Newbies: If you are looking for “recovery” and someone to lift you as you sort through the biggest loss of your life wanting those who once loved the church and their church family to help you let go without sinking into despair ,and you are not ready for talk of drinking, burning the place down, challenging your thoughts, correcting your research etc. ,this may not be the forum you need

Durn! I totally forgot about that messy goop. I mean I thought with all the new technology there might be a faster connection, but nothing ever changes in the church. Not temple ordinances, nor scripture, nor history. All perfect ,so no need for change. Yep. That's the answer... still waiting for the name to appear on the rock. Thanks!

I have no info on what a normal time frame is for selection. If Monson is truly incapacitated , does that play into selection or do they go ahead without his input? Could they possibly be waiting for Monson to pass so Nelson (I believe is next in line for prophet) could choose?

Starts tomorrow here in Southwest Virginia. I would be very surprised if some of the wealthier members haven't already bought hundreds of tickets so the ticket sales will appear heavy. We are being encouraged to attend this special event!

My grandson this past year. He was adamant against it, but the ward kept sending missionaries and guilt until my kids gave in ;but my grandson allowed it only in secret to get them to leave him alone. That is what happened and they got a convert baptism which made them giddy ,as well as ,feeling they saved his soul. The child will not use the word baptism. Makes me sick to my stomach to even thin

Thank you so much. I am excited for you and for dear Tom as a new chapter begins. MormonThink was stumbled upon by myself a couple years ago, and has been a lifeline in my heart breaking , confusing journey . Recovery is where I come when I am angry and need to feel someone else knows exactly why. Grateful for both sites.

Excellent advice. Sometimes, also, we focus on a couple of key words or phrases and define the situation by those while glossing over other points not taking account what was left unwritten. Discussions per media rarely yield enough information and can never replace face to face communication with observing facial or body cues and having opportunities to point out misunderstanding quickly.

How very Mormon sounding is the comment on backward Virginians. I reside nowhere close to Northern Virginia but have a post -graduate degree and have traveled all over the world experiencing many cultures appreciating them all. Universities such as the College of William and Mary, Washington and Lee, Virginia Military Institute, University of Virginia date back to colonial and revolutionary time

AnointedOne, for sure. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I am thankful for his pure heart which led him to sacrifice comfort and community for truth and integrity. His example of doing the right thing encourages me to become more authentic in my life's journey.

Don't cha know? When Mitt was running for Prez, Billy Graham eliminated from his web site list of religious cults, the LDS Church. I believe that was the official notification from the religious right that the church was now acceptable as a true religion and not a cult.

In 8th grade gym class and it was announced over the intercom. That evening was to be the 8th grade dance and I was to wear my first pair of nylons; the kind that you rolled in a garter halfway up the thigh ,if you didn't have a garter belt. I remember some of the girls upset because the dance was canceled and I thought how in the world could anyone be that stupid and empty. They made me mad so I

Some people on this board seem to fastidiously deny God ,but hypocritically try to play him by knowing everything about anything ,and want to beat anyone who thinks differently over the head with their rhetoric. I can speculate with the best of them about why/where this was done ,but in leaving Mormonism , I choose to leave judgment/gossip behind ,especially, in cases of why and where a person c

My life's work has been with troubled teens. He needs to be in consistent counseling with anger management classes if you hope to have any positive outcome. This is not typical teenage boy behavior. It is easier to enable the inappropriate behavior by letting things slide until 'next time' ,hoping there won't be one. Don't allow yourself to feel guilty because he had a poor childhood due to negl

Hells Bells. It is only October 18th. Things of importance take time and nagging/whining doesn't expedite. I would rather something be done carefully and factually with complete documentation than half way. Nothing of import is rushed to please an audience. If it happens as planned per schedule, great, but if it takes longer to be right, even better.

I have been involved in very loud laughter! Thank you! I am truly sorry for the other passengers because that would have been scary, as well as ,hard to take. Probably, she is demonstrating mental issues and I do not want to demean her condition ....but it is what it is... and that is funny with a capital "T". I think I shall watch it again.

Love this response. When you spend a lifetime doing what you thought was essential for spiritual survival for yourself and your loved ones ,not only here but hereafter, and you witness the desertion from what you feel is the only path for survival by one you love, there is a panic and shattering not understood by those who haven't given a lifetime of sacrifice for another. Your worth as a human an

I was asked by a Methodist friend to attend a retreat; The Road To Emmaus, I believe it was called. Excitedly, I said ,"I would love to go." Being a converted LDS member of 35 years at that time, I hungered for some time spent focusing on Christ totally. However, after sending in my forms to go, I was tearfully told by my friend that since I was a Mormon and not a Christian, I would not

Vegas, you asked a question, honestly. Just like life in general or within Mormonism , you meet here all types of people with varying backgrounds who also may have mental, physical,or emotional disorders which color their thinking. This board can yield damage ,as well as ,healing ,so beware of how you internalize responses. People are themselves wherever they are. That said, some people are furth

Kalebshorr -I found this site as it is listed as Recovery From Mormonism and the word recovery felt to me like something I needed as I was beginning a journey I never thought I would be on...a journey where I felt knocked down and physically, mentally sick. I would never have gone looking here had I not seen the word recovery...maybe, that is why she came here ,but then decided this was not the f

All of a sudden and before you know it, you are older wishing for what might have been and realizing it never will be. You are too tired from the struggle, too financially invested, and too weak in your heart to do something/anything to change your misery,so you continue in the daily plod trying to make everyone else's life less stressful ,while yours is tied in knots and empty of wonder. To Iflewover -- I LOVE your musing i.e. "sacred cows get gored with the passage of time." Is that from your brilliance or a quote from someone else? May I use it? I think it would be a thought provoking Facebook post.Gosh, I am in love with that thing!

If I read correctly, you are not ready for your family to know or to resign but want to fly under the radar of inactivity, so in that case I think what you have written is perfect. It is succinct giving no opening that you may need "help" from him,but rather that you are fine giving the impression of "all is well" ,so don't spend time worrying about us. If there is a hint that

I am smiling and appreciative of the suggestion from a couple of you that I change my screen name to something more "positive", but it describes simply where I am in life and I like it. I promise to consider it, though.

Thank you, Anagrammy. I can't stop crying after reading your well thought out response to my impulsive first time post. I told my children/ husband several months ago about my struggles and they are receptive ,but think I am going senile and need to be gentle with me. I share with them everything I have learned but because they have seen miracles, they feel there has to be more to the story. My h
