God did not change her mind: The 2015 "revelation" was for the Mormon Church The 2019 "revelation" is for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Fakes.

This sounds like a page out of the old John Birch Society handbook. The ghost of Ezra still haunts us.

Martin Luther King is one of my few heroes. I spent the day mourning the fact that we have a moron in the White House who is hell bent on destroying King's legacy. As part of my commitment to progressive ideals, I am vowing to carry on King's fight against the injustices that still plague America. Regarding ETB: Like many conservatives today, ETB was diametrically opposed to almost every

Members of the tribal council will stick to the same old shit and name two homogenized white guys with business or legal backgrounds to replace Monson and Hales. As you say, they will call two "Very interchangeable TBM Mormon men." As an aside, I followed these appointments closely until there were three vacancies a couple of years ago when Packer, Perry and Scott all died around th

I have never seen this advertisement before. I am surprised that Monson would do this. It gives new meaning to following the profit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiAUIxItWvQ Needless to say, I think it is totally inappropriate for a so-called special witness of Christ and very high ranking church leader to be advertising for a private corporation or to sit on corporate boards. (I kno

I totally agree with you about Oaks being worse. May be Nelson will live a long time so long as he and Wendy adhere to the temple demand of "let us go down."

May be we should focus on Monson's failures to act. In particular, Monson should be remembered for his failure to take a moral stand against Donald Trump and speak out about Trump's bigotry, pathological lying, belittling of other people, warmongering, selfishness, greed, narcissism, and his admitted sexual assaults and predatory behavior.

His greatest achievement was to give new emphasis and meaning to the word "even" and creating memorable lines such as: "our Lord, and Savior, even Jesus Christ, taught ...." "We are led by a prophet of God, even President Gordon B. Hinckley." "Today we have heard God’s prophet speak—even President Spencer W. Kimball." Monson should also be

This is also one more piece of evidence that refutes the creationist argument that the earth is merely 6,000 years old. Has anyone read the book "Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind" by Yuval Noah Harari? It is a very interesting evolutionary account of human history. It beats the hell out of reading the Bible or the Myth of Joseph Smith known as the BoM.

In the article from the Ensign linked below, R.M. Nelson, the presumptive new profit, turns the concept of unconditional love on its head. According to Nelson, God only really loves you if you are "worthy" of his love. I could go on about the negative ramifications of this so-called teaching, but I would only be preaching to the choir. I will just say that no wonder a high percentage

I have a different read on this. I think Jim Hamula learned that the whole thing is a con and finally spoke out and this is why they kicked him out. The church immediately claimed that Hamula was not X'd for apostasy or being disillusioned. They did not say he was X'd for disbelief. To me, this suggests that the so-called brethren were trying to get out in front of this story and deflect atten

I agree that a disbeliever should resign rather than letting TSCC axe you. There is healing in taking your personal power back.

James Hamula was in my law school class (class of 1984). Despite the news release, it would not surprise me one bit if he was ex'ed for disbelief. The first seeds of my disbelief were sown while I was a law student. There were a number of my fellow students who were starting to question things, including a friend who later became an area authority. I hope Jim Hamula speaks up about what ha

Actually, I am wrong. The early Mormons were also fond of whiskey and other strong drinks as well: This is a link to a church friendly website that at least acknowledges that the Word of Wisdom was not strictly enforced among early Mormons: http://www.ldsliving.com/How-Our-View-of-the-Word-of-Wisdom-Has-Changed-from-1833-to-Now/s/84774 Jim Whitefield's essay on this is excellent: h

Drinking wine and beer was a very common practice among the early "saints" and the practice persisted for the first 70 years of the church's existence. Most early members did not consider Wine and beer as strong drinks. This view started changing with Joseph F. Smith and Heber J. Grant.

"Give" said the little stream to the little factory and the little factory replied, "come let us go down." I find it ironic that mainstream Mormons ridicule fringe Mormon groups for their belief in such things as the "dream mine." Yet, they defend an organization that spends millions of dollars to build a massive granite vault in the side of a mountain to protect

Here is the real issue in a nutshell: Climate change denial is based on fear. Most deniers tend to be politically conservative. The prospect of dealing with climate change alarms conservatives because it is unsolvable at the national level and will require coordinated global actions. The reality of climate change also frightens conservatives because it challenges their free enterprise ideolog

Here are my rambling thoughts on Oaks. Although I was never a fan of Oaks, I took trusts from Oaks when I was in law school in 1983 mainly out of curiosity. Even back then, the man came across as an arrogant asshole. Despite his arrogance, Oaks gained respect nationwide as justice of the Utah Supreme Court and a legal scholar. At the time, he was recruited to the "twelve" in 1984,

Yeah, remember James Faust's "The Little Things" conference talk in October 2001? I heard this talk within days of discovering that JS was a conman and that his church was a fraud. (This just a week or so after 911.) It was the first time that I got to test my new LDS bullshit meter and Faust's talk sent it off the charts. The real reason Cowdery, Marsh and Whitmer left is tha

I wonder why the church consistently counsels its members not take offense at their leaders, but it never counsels its leaders not to be offensive douche bags and assholes who offend others. There are number of LDS Church leaders who are offensive pricks, starting at the very top of the pyramid. During the 47 years that I was an active Mormon, leaders like BKP, Oaks and many other so-called a

If you are being abused emotionally or physically, I would leave. Carrying this weight around will cause all sorts of physical and emotional problems for you. And it is hard on the kids because they pick up on it. After leaving, take things bery sloswly. Take a year or two to heal before getting into any other relationships. Rediscover yourself and who you are. I've down this path and i

The church's rules on premarital sex are absurd. Almost all males masturbate, so why torture these young men with guilt for doing what nature has programmed into their DNA. Likewise, a large number of dating couples or even casual acquaintences engage in sexual activity. This can run the gamut from regular intercourse and oral sex to so-called "soaking". Lets face it, humans are sexu

The prayer roll and the prayer circle are both just big frickin' jokes. Although the prayer chanted at the altar is not set, the officiator rips through the same check list of prayer items every time, such as blessing the president of the temple, the missionaries, and the youth of the church. The people in the prayer circle and the officiator don't give a damn about the names on the roll sin
