My niece postponed her mission six weeks because of medical issues. I hope she bails altogether.

I really feel for her. If she is purging at work, she is in really deep. She needs help. Is there a particular person who can gently speak with her? Bulimia takes over your life and it is an addiction. There are so many ways to get help nowadays, both online and in support groups. It is not about the food. It is about the momentary comfort that binging provides as you aren't getting it in other w

I just filled out the form to open an account on DearElder.com. It asks for everything, including creating a password to login. However, there was no "https" listed in the web address which shows that the site is secure, so it obviously isn't. I wonder how many people don't notice that. It is the first thing I look for when I open an account online.

Mine was attending the temple. It was such a shock to my senses. I TRIED to put in on the shelf but could not. To this day, I don't understand how anyone can.

I saw my (Mormon) dentist today and asked him about the wisdom teeth extraction request by the church. He said that it is NOT a requirement. It is up to the dentist (family or otherwise) to make the call if the future missionary should have them removed. He did say that he recommends that, if needed, the teeth be removed 3 months before they leave. Obviously, this is also the call of the dentists

Wisdom teeth can be below the surface for years from what I understand. I had mine removed when I was 20 but only because the bottom ones kept trying to appear and then would be covered again and I was in pain. I had no trouble with the upper ones but they took them at the same time. This was only because I was having problems, otherwise I wouldn't have gone to the dentist. I have no idea if

Are all missionaries required to have their wisdom teeth removed before they leave for their missions? Not everyone has problems with them and for the church to do this preemptively chaps my hide. I don't see how a reputable dentist/dental surgeon would agree to this. Also, it's another expense as a lot of people don't have dental insurance. What's next? Having gallbladders removed "just

I never had children myself. If it would have happened, I would have been fine with it but I never felt it was the be all, end all that other women have felt. I married a man with 2 daughters and was thrown into the Catch 22 of being a stepmother. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Almost threw in the towel but hung in there for my reasons. I now have a good relationship with my stepdaughters

An old friend's father passed away a few weeks ago. The funeral was a small, intimate affair. The service was Masonic and spiritual. The only music was Big Band music from the 1940's. The experience was uplifting.

I did run this by a Denver independent journalist who is a friend of mine. He replied that since "not every Bishop was doing this", that it would be hard for the media to pick it up. I tried to explain the whole issue but, as he is a non-Mormon, he couldn't grasp it.

I missed the part about her not having anymore interviews. Sheriff Joe said it was her right of free speech. I would love it if she couldn't do anymore.

I was looking forward to having my life back (certainly no pun intended)but now I don't know how long the final deliberations can take. I really think she didn't think they would convict her. I wonder if she will keep her twitter account.

So gay scouts are ok as long as they are under 18? Does a switch flip the second afterwards? This reminds me of reading a book about a girl growing up in Iran. At 12 she went into a shop and when she walked out she was wearing a burka. She had not changed but others' perception of her changed.

Just in the last day something has happened that has indirectly thrown a wrench in our life after retirement. Brings home how life can turn on a dime and we ultimately have no control.

I was in Prague recently. We had a private tour guide who talked about everything with me. He said that the Czech Republic has the highest rate of Atheism in Europe. The next day I couldn't believe seeing 2 missionaries outside of Prague Castle. They should just enjoy themselves and forget about converts. It's so beautiful there.

Don't worry. That campaign will have as much effect as the one in the US. Pretty much none.

Leigh, first of all, don't freak out. Get as much information as you can. Acyclovir and Valtrex work well for recurring outbreaks. Some people take it long term but I don't know what those circumstances are. The social stigma is because it is "down there". Every doctor will say that it can be spread even without symptoms no matter how rare that is. It can be difficult but be upfront wit

I understand that there are slight mutations. For example, one partner got it years ago, one partner got it 2 years ago. They can be slightly different strains.

West Point (and I am assuming the other military academies) allow a cadet to go on a mission and keep their spot but only after he/she has attended 2 years. I wonder if they will keep it that way. I'm surprised it was even an option at all.

I want to thank everyone who gave me input regarding my grandaughters' birthday present. I ended up ordering them binoculars. Since they are twins, I bought 2 so they won't fight over anything. If they continue to be interested in astronomy, we can revisit getting them a telescope when they are older. Much thanks!!!

Ah, yes, Cook bringing up the Newtown tragedy and how he was asked to speak at the young girl's funeral. He neglects to mention that he was the one "impressed" to go to the grieving father and tell him that he needs to speak on camera as this was a great missionary moment. That poor father looked like a deer caught in the headlights. Now, Cook gets to boast about it on tv.
