The story is secret #64 on the Mormon Missionary Secrets Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/mormonmissionarysecrets Maybe the missionary was just trying to be cute, but it's pretty messed up to threaten someone and justify it with one of the most troubling stories in the LDS scriptures.

Dear MormonVoices volunteer, Michael Otterson, who works for church Public Affairs, has published an article in the Washington Post. It's available here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/on-faith/wp/2013/10/07/more-mormons-on-a-mission/ You might also, if you haven't yet, want to check out the extensive press coverage of last weekend's General Conference. A list of articles is here:

Dear MormonVoices volunteer, Slate, an online magazine, has published an article about the need to wait one year after a civil marriage to be sealed in the temple, and some activists' efforts to change that rule. The article is likely to attract comments that are negative toward the church. It can be accessed here: http://www.slate.com/articles/life/faithbased/2013/09/mormon_weddings_why_you_c

With my limited time and experience, I know several dozen. I would estimate that there are around 300 at BYU that are nonbelievers and probably several hundred more that are on the edge. It's hard to get a good estimate since we have to hide from the honor code police and such, but I have found way more than I ever expected.

It was great! It had much of the good things of religion like service, community, and uplifting content without the judgmental dogma or ridiculous stories. I think I met a few of you there. Thanks for talking to us. We BYU atheists love taking field trips to visit sane people.

Brigham Young preaches: "Givingendowments to a great many proves their overthrow through revealing things to them which they cannot keep. They are not worthy to receive them. Brother Heber takes the lead in givingendowments, and you may ask, 'Why do you give such folks their endowments?' To qualify themto bedevils, if they wish to be. The plan of salvation is calculated to make devils as well

http://www.ldschurchnews.com/home/ http://www.kcna.co.jp/index-e.htm Look at the similarity in types of headlines and overall tone and style. Both are making news out of nothing and spinning it to make themselves seem important and benevolent. It is laughable and sad.

Cumorah.com, the "missiology" website, recently released a study called The Internet and LDS Church Growth. It can be found here:http://cumorah.com/index.php?target=view_other_articles&story_id=485&cat_id=30. Although their conclusion reflects typical Mormon slant, the statistics they provide are remarkable. They show that in the top ten countries with the most Interne

Best primary lesson ever. I was sitting in on a primary lesson and those kids gave the teacher a run for his money. He was trying to teach the children about faith by using one of those inane metaphors that Morgbots always resort to. He compared faith to knowing that when one flicks the light switch you know the light will go on with faith. Teacher: How do you know that the light will go

Mormons usually think that all ex-Mormons must be like the protesters and they take them as proof that ex-Mormons are bitter, hateful, and have a sad life. However, most the protesters I have seen are usually very conservative conspiracy theorists and Ed Decker type Evangelicals. I don't think that most ex-Mormons on this board identify with that. In fact, I think protesting at Temple Squar

I've been hearing a lot of TBMs justify the mall by claiming that it is an "investment" that allows the church to pay out more for humanitarian aid. This is laughable. First of all, the church is spending 4 times as much on City Creek and related development as it has on all the humanitarian aid that the church has ever given out. And that is just the money spent on one mall! Thi

It is interesting that Burton, the bishop in charge of the mall and such, got released yesterday. Just a week after the mall finally got done. Was it punishment for the debacle?

Russel M Nelson popped out this turd of "Mormon folk wisdom" today. I thought he was smart. He claimed that the Big Bang could not have produced our world. "it would be like an explosion in a print shop producing a dictionary." D'oh! When will scientifically minded Mormons wake up?

This is the first year I can remember where no new temples were announced. This is quite a shock to most TBMs who have grown accustomed to growth. Hmm.

The question in the institute class was rather innocuous. It was the answer that shocked me. Q. How can you best tell if you are keeping your temple covenants? A. If you feel the spirit is close to you B. If you feel closer to Christ C. If you have a temple recommend D. If you are wearing your sacred garments correctly. I am kidding you not. The answer was D. Then they wonder

Remember how Einstein's equations showed that time and space are linked? The Big Bang not only created all the matter in the universe, but it created time and space itself. There is nothing "outside" or "before" since these are terms that require time and space. However, these concepts were created by the Big Bang. It is hard for us to get our minds around it since we ar
