WOW! Yet another reason why Dolly is a rockstar! And your daughter is too! Congratulations! We need more pilots, that's for sure!

She has always been very neutral, though I suspect she leans left. She has not publicly said that though, as far as I know. I think she sees political divisions as being dividing, and not uniting. She seems open to everyone.

When I was young and foolish (still a TBM) I was making fun of Dolly and one of my co-workers, who was from Tennessee, was appalled that I would even do such a thing. To him, Dolly was the greater good. She is a saint, in the true sense of the word. Making fun of her would be like making fun of Judy Garland. I quickly apologized but I didn't get it for many years. Then I learned more and

It is my understanding that Homo-Erectus made it to parts of the South Pacific, or at least to Java. It makes me wonder if Homo-Erectus was really a different species or just earlier version of Homo-Sapiens. The ability to travel across an ocean supports the idea that they probably could talk, work with tools, and work cooperatively. Not much different than the rest of us.

I think the chapel you described was my home ward's chapel growing up. I was in the Cardiff ward. That chapel was designed by Bill Lewis, the same architect who designed the San Diego temple. He was our former bishop and a friend of our family. My father, who was a contractor did a lot of work at brother Lewis' house in Del Mar. I forgot about the big "Aloha" in the meetings

It was a Martin Denny album. It looks like a few of Martin Denny's albums had the name "exotica" in the title. Perhaps he is responsible for the branding of the musical genre. I'm not an expert. I'm pretty new to re-acquainting myself to all of this stuff. I heard a lot of it growing up as my dad had many albums of this music but I wasn't into it at the time.

My wife and I are both musicians and recently we have been listening to a lot of Exotica music. For those not familiar with this genre, it comes from the 1950’s jazz scene and it deals with themes of fantasy, some of it is sci-fi (think of the original Star Trek theme song), and a lot of it focuses on Polynesian themes. It was a very popular musical style and is instantly recognizable when y

Clowns scare me. Morg clowns scare me even more. Big fake painted on smiles. The total façade of happiness in everyone's faces and in their voices. None of it is real.

Tonight we are going to have some nevmo family over. we are making "shot-and-a-beer-chicken" with a white-wine sangria and I'm planning to top it off with a 10-year port (Taylor Fladgate) and some sliced apples. I find this to be a great combination. We are in North Idaho so please stop by! Everyone is welcome!

I have noticed that it is helpful to be part Morman Royalty. High up enough or connected to the upper crust of mormonism to realize that they need to keep quiet about the stipends and other perks that come with being a MP. I had an old mormon friend I grew up with who married into royalty and became a MP. My old MP in the Philippines was a Richards and could proudly trace his heritag

I LOVED the book of mormon musical. It was great to see all of those people in the audience show up with their missionary tags. I gave my missionary tag away years ago to my downstairs neighbor who was auditioning for the BOM musical. He got 2 call backs but eventually didn't get the part. I suppose the mojo from my old badge had no effect.

Looking back, this situation would be a musical hell. I remember being on my mission and the only stuff we could listen to was mormon crap. All of the time. It still haunts me decades later.

Coming down... Far a way from mythic lies With knowledge trailing from their feet as they go the promise of more science in their eyes... I read somewhere that Lex DeAzevedo's brother is gay. And I think he played the part of Jimmy Flinders in the original BYU production. I sure hope he hasn't been cast out from the rest of his family. I don't know anything about the DeAzevedos. Th

Perhaps it is the news or the state of the world but now I keep hearing "Who will survive, who will survive, not one of us will be alive" Over and over. That then melds into "Jimmy oh Jimmy don't listen to them...how can they say their your friends?" It goes on and on. What a crazy musical. Inflicting annoying memories decades later.

the City of Watford is where the movie "Love Actually" takes place. Just my 2 cents.

We live in North Idaho and we had a couple of Jehovah's Witness at our door yesterday an we ended up talking to them for at least 40 min. Once I got started talking about my experiences with Mormonism I could see that they were interested, however they kept quoting bible verses that seemed irrelevant. When I asked about their hierarchy they claimed that they had no paid clergy. I responded

The mormon church has enough cash on hand to buy a new appartment for EVERY homeless person in the US! They could end homelessness in the US right now if they wanted. Seriously.

Recovery is not easy BUT it is worth it. I was BIC and an RM. I didn't leave until I was 38. I remember feeling a great loss when I left. I felt like a hollow person who had no identity. The church had provided me with that and with a moral code. It took me years to figure out all of this stuff for myself. All of my TBM family members are now well aware that I think the mormon church

I suspect that the temple construction has more to do with the leadership siphoning off money for the projects than serving the members. It would seem a better was to serve the members would be to forgo all of the new construction and give the money back to the tithepayers.

My wife is a very experienced L&D RN. She has several stories of fetal demises when the family decided to have an at-home childbirth far away (40min or more) away from the hospital. (BTW - if you do want to give birth to your child in a field...pick the one next to the hospital.) This is dangerous. Childbirth is not without risk in even the most ideal conditions. Now add in our win

I've been living here for 5 years now and I can tell you that this town is split between the "normals" and the extremists. I suspect that the normals (including old-school Republicans) outnumber the extremists but the extremists have louder voices. The extremists often parade up and down Sherman Ave with their massive trucks bearing Gadsden flags and other pro-trump propaganda...b

I am so glad to hear you had a great experience! My wife and I have micro-dosed a bit since her father's passing. We find it helpful to deal with the depression and grief. To me, mushrooms just give a different perspective on things. That, and they help to re-size emotional trauma to something more manageable.

I suspect that the early "saints" were dosed with hallucinogens without their consent. It would explain the visions of angels and the like at the Nauvoo temple dedication, among other visions. It does seem like the visions rapidly dropped off the radar after Smith's death.

I would say the bible is 100% false. Think about it. Do you really believe that Noah found 2 animals of every kind and put them in a small wooden boat he constructed? Millions of different species all in one small boat? Did Jesus really turn a well of water into wine, or did he feed thousands with a couple of fish? I suppose it is easy to believe in magic if lots of people believe it

^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^ I agree with this post. Having found my true love 18 years ago and we are still going strong. Everybody said we wouldn't last a year and here we still are. I get the strong impression that Meghan and Harry are truly in love. To all of the posters who say otherwise, I think you probably didn't watch the documentary...? Also, The Royal family DOES tell you

First off, I’m an American, though I have lived in England for a few years. I have just finished watching the series "Harry and Meghan" and it strikes me that the Royal Family seems to operate like a cult. For example: 1 - Strong Hierarchical leadership structure with a clear understanding with who’s on top. 2 - Control - All 4 types of control used in Steven Hassan’s

Thomas Monson didn't go either. He was in the Naval Reserves. Russel Nelson didn't go as well. WW2 was a factor somehow. To me, the thing that would help your son who is considering going is some support with his life. He needs a soft place to fall if he makes mistakes. A place to call home while he figures out his situation. I'm sure your Mom is making it clear that she will not

It took me this long to finally see it. I was leaving the cult a 16 years ago and I had a lot of anger about the cult. I could not see the humor in any of it. Now I can. Anyway, the whole thing was awesome! I loved the number "Turn it off". Super fun. It was great to be in a huge theater with lots of people enjoying the musical that makes fun of mormons. I suppose we were al

You bring up an excellent point about leaving a cult. When I left mormonism I left because I didn't believe in god but I still was culturally a mormon. It took years for me to realize how destructive mormonism is. It takes a lot of work and awareness (and in my case an intelligent nevmo wife) to get one to question ALL of the aspect that a cult inserts into one's life. Much of my identity

It seems to me that these "Patriot Front" men must have felt weak and powerless...like their lives would amount to nothing. They probably gravitated to this extremist group to feel like they had lots of power and that they were going to do great things. They probably felt like they could be the spark that would collapse the whole American system by starting an anti-gay riot and en
