If native tribes were capable of pushing out European invaders in the sixteenth century it seems even more unlikely that a small group of Semites from the Near East were going to control the even more populated region of Central America. Even as late as 1680 the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico were able to force the entire Spanish population to leave the region and re-settle in Texas for ten years.

I forgot to add that before 1700 most of the Native American population had been wiped out by disease as a result of first contact with Europeans. Estimates vary between 50%-90%. The Indians had no immunity against measles, smallpox, etc.

And to add to that--middle easterners probably had diseases that would have wiped out a lot of the native population as soon as the Nephites came ashore--you would think the BoM writers might have mentioned that (you know, the couple of times when they made small mention of "others") which of course means the millions that were surrounding them....

But they were called upon by god ;) they were speshul! And, as it says in the Book of Mormon, they were "white and delightsome," therefore, they clearly had the upper hand.
