Haven't been on for a while, long enough that my previous userID of Butch seems to have been marked inactive (hint to admins to activate again please); but I had to comment on Uchtdorf's space pen remarks.

First see:

http://www.snopes.com/business/genius/spacepen.asp

I think the last thing members of the LDS Church need is more simplicity--more milk. The funny thing about this story (after laughing about its propaganda nature) is in fact the hidden complexity--wooden pencils are dangerous in a 100% oxygen, no gravity environment.

Seriously, if you are going to use Chicken Soup stories, at least run them through snopes first. It seems Mormonism only works in a fictional world.

That's ok, they can revise it and eventually delete it and he will have never said it. Problem solved.

NASA hasn't used 100% oxygen in a space vehicle since the Apollo 1 fire....fyi.

I heard when I was a kid that NASA spent a ton of money trying to develop some kind of vacuum electric razor for space that would collect the hair, and finally one of the astronauts said "Why don't we just use shaving cream?" Can't find the story on the web (yet).

As I tried to miss so many of them. Was this at priesthood? Do you have a link to the story as he told it?

Last conference he used a made-up-for-the-internet story as well (the bombed statue of Christ with the missing hands).

He should really start to check his sources, rather than do a random 'net search for anecdotes.

What does he use as inspiration for his talks- the Holy Glost or Google?
