I'd think someone who's been down that road would get a glint of an idea to think for themselves and feel more empowered, already knowing what it's like, but I think maybe she hasn't. Honestly I can't figure out why a single virginal girl of that age wouldn't just be going for anything at that point.

As a grown-ass woman of (almost) 44, I had to cringe at the idea of referring to another grown-ass adult in her 40s being called a "girl." Really? She's not a grown up just because she hasn't done the deed? Is she mentally disabled or are you just patronizing?

I did think about whether I should use that word or "lady", or "woman"... but maybe I was just subconsciously following along the lines of Neil Diamond.

If you are having to guess, then the answer is not-a-virgin, and it shouldn't make any difference.

Ask her to take a polygraph about some other issue, and then sneak the "Are you a virgin?" question in more as a validity question. That way you'll know for sure.

It really isn't that important to a lot of people. We are raised in a culture where sex is hyped as the best/most important thing ever, but really its just one aspect of a full life.
