I have a friend who's in her 40's, and I'm not sure if I can tell if she's a virgin or not. She's never been married (engaged once), and says sex before marriage is evil. I don't even know what that means.

She told me she's drank, but I keep wondering if she's lost her virginity. I'd think someone who's been down that road would get a glint of an idea to think for themselves and feel more empowered, already knowing what it's like, but I think maybe she hasn't. Honestly I can't figure out why a single virginal girl of that age wouldn't just be going for anything at that point.

Your subject looked like it was begging for a punch line. But, I see you didn't intend this to be a joke.

My response: Its none of your business.

At the same time, I'd also say that it is none of her bishop's business either.

Yah... odd that someone might get offended that a friend asks but not a man in his 50's that she only sees at church.

Wow.

Look, if you want to know if she's a virgin, ask. If it's any of your business, she'll tell you.

I agree that it's really none of your business.

Only legitimate way to find out is to date her and see how far she will going under the spell of love. Of course, if you are married this is a very bad thing to do.

to other friends that she's a virgin.

If someone thinks sex before marriage is evil I'd say there is some guilt there....maybe fear and probably no experience.

My friend is strange...........not just virginal.

There is a radio show around here called "hair or bare". And I don't get the fascination wither a girl has hair or is bare down there. Anyway please don't ask her leave her privacy. When she want's to tell you she will.

"I can't figure out why a single virginal girl of that age"

As a grown-ass woman of (almost) 44, I had to cringe at the idea of referring to another grown-ass adult in her 40s being called a "girl." Really? She's not a grown up just because she hasn't done the deed? Is she mentally disabled or are you just patronizing?

I did think about whether I should use that word or "lady", or "woman"... but maybe I was just subconsciously following along the lines of Neil Diamond.

Ask her out and try to get her in bed. Usually that's when the truth comes out.

No-no, Outcast, that's how you tell if someone is gay or not.

I like the answer, "The Mormon virgin will tell you." I have a few virgin friends over the age of 35, and they brag about it. I mean, I've been to parties with them, and this is just about the first thing they say, after the name. "My name is Sarah, and I'm a virgin."

If you are having to guess, then the answer is not-a-virgin, and it shouldn't make any difference.

Ask her to take a polygraph about some other issue, and then sneak the "Are you a virgin?" question in more as a validity question. That way you'll know for sure.

Because she doesn't need to. She has a life to attend to -- work, interests, friends. She can get herself off just fine if need be. She might even be able to do it just by using her thoughts, no touching needed. So why settle for just "anything?"

Oh yeah, and at the age of 40-something, she really does deserve to be called a woman, not a girl.

Has anyone else seen The Life of Brian, where they try to determine if Brian's mom is a virgin? The spend the whole movie following her around, trying to get her to answer the question.

"Are you a virgin?"

And Brian's mom answers with, "That's none of your business!"

And they all mumble and murmur to each other, "yeah, she's a virgin..."

Just wanted to throw that in because I thought you should all know that I'm reading this thread with British Monty Python accents in my head. Y'all are hilarious! ;>)

Hey, what about guy virgins! They exist.

I once knew a self-proclaimed 30 year old male virgin who said he tried to kiss a girl once when he was about 18 years old and she was repulsed by his advances, so he never tried dating or kissing any woman again.

It really isn't that important to a lot of people. We are raised in a culture where sex is hyped as the best/most important thing ever, but really its just one aspect of a full life.

not really sure why it matters to you- will you treat her differently depending on the answer?

It's not a thing.
And some people really don't care. Why do you care so much about another person's personal life?

Do you refer to 40-year-old males as "boys"?
I know this 40-year-old boy who I think is a virgin.
