I know there have been several posts concerning the bikini vs one piece video that's all over fb, but I had to add another. My TBM mil posted that video on her fb, and everyone commented about how amazing and insightful it was. They "learned so much". At first I thought it was interesting, but when she got to the part where she correlated the study with women wearing a bikini I got irritated.

I'm so SICK and TIRED of everyone giving so much power to clothing! Especially women's clothing. Why are we attaching so much POWER to a piece of fabric? I don't believe that she used that study correctly. I'm sure she twisted and slanted the study so that it would back up her agenda. But, even if she didn't, I call foul. I do not care what anyone thinks, if I want to wear a bikini, I will. It doesn't define me! It doesn't make me a lesser woman than a woman wearing a one piece. I am not less worthy or less moral. I'm not a "slut" or an object because my frigging naval shows!

We need to stop giving power to a bathing suit. It's all about the way you carry yourself. I can walk out in a string bikini, but if I have confidence and self respect no one will treat me as an object. In the same token I can walk out in a one piece and garner negative attention if I choose to carry myself in that regard.

I agree. We shouldn't give so much power to bathing suits. That's why I'm a fan of no bathing suits!!! It feels better, you don't have to pack as much, and you save money on laundry.

I don't ware a bikini. Sometimes I ware a two piece, sometimes just the bottom, but most of the time I don't ware anything at all.

So if a woman likes sex (with other men, other women, or herself), then she's a slut?

If she's single, or if she's with someone but not cheating, why does it have to be that if she likes sex, she's a slut?

If a woman wears a bikini because she likes the attention it draws, so what? If a woman wears a bikini simply because she's more comfortable in that than in a one-piecer, so what?

Her motivation aside, if men can't control their thoughts / actions because of "some fabric", then the problem lies with the man, not the woman.

I hate that aspect of our society (the notion that women shouldn't celebrate their sexuality), and I hope it's a relic dying out with the boomers...

Well, I don't think you're a slut based on your attire. But, I personally think it's gross to sleep with a lot of people. To each his own though. I think it's great that women love sex, but I think it's gross and unsafe to screw every dude that comes along. But, I think that it's gross when guys do that too! I guess I grew up in the aids scare, maybe that's why I feel this way.

Having passed through the HIV / AIDS pandemic as well, I understand your squeamish attitude about having multiple partners.

However, that's just my opinion, and I try to be careful that I don't foist my own boundaries on somebody else.

If somebody practices safe sex, and they're not cheating on anyone, then no harm / no foul says I.

If, for example, a woman takes care of her own needs thrice a day, and occasionally watches porn whilst thusly engaged, would she be considered a slut? How about if her partner is fully aware of said activities, and is ecstatic that his partner is comfortable enough with her own sexuality, that she's able to express herself without guilt? Is the woman still considered to be a slut by society (even though her partner thinks otherwise)?

Labels are not useful and can be very damaging.

I understand that it is frustrating that Mormons attach so much power to a piece of fabric, but just remember one thing. These are the same idiots who think their underwear can stop bullets/fire/speeding trains.

It's funny that Utah's known for wearing some of the tightest clothing in the nation, even though it tends to cover just a little more.

So after getting anxious and depressed I went home and made myself some knee length swim trunks. Feels weird swimming with all that fabric swishing around my legs.
