I have an English writing assignment. I am trying to come up with a very apt metaphor or symbol for the concept that life is mortal (death is permanent) and that there is no absolute law/truth or law giver.

I was thinking of a flower garden that had bloomed for ages, and then suddenly when the gardener believes he is immortal and god-like, the garden dies.

But that seems cliche and perhaps not quite as strong of a parallel to the "no absolute truth" point.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

How about different people describing a shared experience, but each of their stories are so different from each other's that it doesn't even sound like they're talking about the same experience.
