The Mormon Church publicly proclaims that its "holy writ," the Book of Abraham, is the revealed Word of God.
Truth be told, it reflects the perverted world of Joseph Smith, who made it all up to promote his charade and to justify his personal promiscuity.
Let's get down to the bed of the matter.

--The Chain of Custody of Ancient Egyptian Papryi and How They Came into Eventual Possession by Joseph Smith
In July 1835, Joseph Smith purchased a collection of Egyptian papyri and some mummies from a traveling salesman named Michael H. Chandler, when the latter was traveling through the then-Mormon Church headquarters of Kirtland, Ohio, peddling his wares.
The collection which Smith bought from Chandler contained ancient Egyptian papyri that had initially been discovered in Thebes by Antonio Lebolo, who then sold them to Chandler who,in turn, ended up selling them to Smith.
In 1966, portions of this Smith parchment collection (thought to have been destroyed in the great Chicago fire of 1871) were unexpectedly discovered in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art by a University of Utah researcher and gifted a year later to the Mormon Church.
Now actual scientific examination of the true nature of the papyri could be performed, instead of merely taking Smith's weasly wordl for it.
Recall that after Chandler sold these papyri to Smith, the Mormon Church's founding fraudster emphatically declared their hieroglyphic symbols to be the original handwritten words of the Biblical prophet Abraham--accounts which Smith claimed were written by Abraham some 4,000 years earlier.
However, professional Egyptologists have since independently translated these papyri and dated them accurately. Unfortunately for Smith and his myth-produced Mormon Church, their contents do not conform in any reasonable or evidentiary fashion to the contents Smith said he "translated" into English.
Rather, the papryi actually find origination in the well-known and historically common ancient Egyptian "Book of Breathings," an Egyptian magic-myth relating to funeral rites performed on their dead, including the embalming of corpses. The papyri also contain now-familiar ancient Egyptian mythological tales involving various gods and goddesses, including fantasy accounts of the anticipated resurrection of the Egyptian god Osiris.
Modern-day Egyptian scholars have reliably dated these scrolls back to the first century A.D.--nearly 2,000 years after Smith falsely claimed that Abraham had personally handwritten them on Egyptian parchment.

For purposes of this examination, note is made that various segments of the purchased papyri in possession of Smith actually depict ancient Egypt's pagan gods in various scenarios of sexual arousal.
For instance, a portion of Smith's papyri collection that he dishonestly claimed "represent[ed] God sitting upon his throne," have, in reality, been identified by reputable modern-day Egyptian scholars as the god Min.

The original Facsimile #1 (before it was disfigured by Smith and Company to include non-god, humanized, cut-and-pasted, recreated Egyptian priests attempting to knife to death Abraham) actually depicts--in ancient Egyptian form--the mythologized representation of the Egyptian god Osiris being embalmed and brought back from the dead.

Joseph should have buried the papyri with the gold plates in that stone box. Did Joseph's fleshly pursuits prevent him from accomplishing this important task? Making the journey to Hill Cumoruh located in Central/South America in the 1830s-40s would have taken months. Damn that Stan.

While maintaining that there should be no paid clergy, Sidney and Joseph were well paid for non-pastoral duties, which included translating ancient records.
. . . as officially published in the "History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Period 1, Life of Joseph Smith, by Himself" (Salt Lake City, Utah: Deseret Book, 1905, pp. 32-33). The request for payment to Smith and Rigdon was for the supposed "translation" of the bogus Book of Abraham, which Smith claimed to have deciphered in 1835.
His request for payment for this fraudlent "translation" reads as follows:
"Remuneration of the Prophet and Sidney Rigdon for Temporal Labors in the Church.
"Saturday, 12 [1838].—President Rigdon and myself attended the High Council for the purpose of presenting for their consideration some business relating to our pecuniary concerns.
"We stated to the Council our situation, as to maintaining our families, and the relation we now stand in to the Church, spending as we have for eight years, our time, talents, and property, in the service of the Church: and being reduced as it were to beggary, and being still detained in the business and service of the Church, it appears necessary that something should be done for the support of our families by the Church, or else we must do it by our own labors; and if the Church say to us, 'Help yourselves,' we will thank them and immediately do so; but if the Church say, 'Serve us,' some provision must be made for our sustenance.
"The Council investigated the matter, and instructed the Bishop to make over to President Joseph Smith, Jun., and Sidney Rigdon, each an eighty-acre lot of land from the property of the Church, situated adjacent to the city corporation; also appointed three of their number, viz., George W. Harris, Elias Higbee and Simeon Carter, a committee to confer with said Presidency, and satisfy them for their services the present year; not for preaching, or for receiving the word of God by revelation, neither for instructing the Saints in righteousness, but for services rendered in the printing establishment, IN TRANSLATING THE ANCIENT RECORDS, in etc., etc. Said committee agreed that Presidents Smith and Rigdon should receive $1,100 each as a just remuneration for their services this year."
