It's hard to imagine how this very real news story isn't going to sound like satire to the great majority of NPR listeners:

In First For Mormon Conference, Woman Leads Prayer
by The Associated Press
April 06, 2013 6:33 PM
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=176434595

I started laughing after the first sentence. A few seconds later I was struck by how similar it seemed to articles in The Onion.

Quote from the article:

Church spokesman Eric Hawkins said Mormon leaders late last year decided who would be leading the conference prayers, which is before the women prayer campaign was launched.

- eye roll

No kidding.

I'm curious: do you think the average National Public Radio listener reacted to this news with something like, "I knew that the Mormon church was wacky, but I had no idea it was quite that bad..."?

What-Ever!

Because we wouldn't want any mere member of the church to believe that what they think actually matters.

Exactly. As a serious news organization, it's hard to imagine what National Public Radio could have reported that would make the church look more absurd.

If TBM's weren't so overcome at the moment by the idea that this "momentous change" affirms that their beloved prophet is divinely directed, they'd probably be fuming about being mocked by the media.

I'm surprised church co pr reacted to requests from the media on this. I would have expected them to let it go for several confereces and then react with the we've always been at war with west womansia.

I wonder how the active sisters like chewing on that bone just thrown to them.

How am I the first one in this thread to say "We've always been at war with Eastasia?"
