Idle hands are the devil's workshop. Keep 'em busy, even if it has to be brainless crafts akin to those used to sooth mental patients.....

Funny and sad at the same time, my Sister in law is in a live in facility. She was telling me how much she hates the Arts and Crafts activities they do. I told her yeah, I never really enjoyed it either and it seemed to be a big thing in Utah. She looked at me and said well there just nuts, its so stupid to sit and glue junk together. Its sad to go visit and see the toll the meds take on her body. She has such a sharp wit and a big heart but she got stuck with a cruddy mental illness.

Aw I actually like their blog. I found it on pinterest, which has been invaded by Mormon women, and have done a few of the crafts with my kids.

But I do agree that the whole "lets glue stuff together to fill the emptiness in our lives" vibe is ever present on these blogs... Some of the items I see on there make me think, "Wouldn't it have been a better use of time to just sit quietly with your kids and listen to them or let them lead the way for a while?"

I like crafts which serve a function or pass as art, but a lot of what I see on these blogs is just dollar store cheap stuff - destined soon to be garbage that ends up clogging an albatross' belly in the pacific someday. Think of the sea birds!

Its not just a MO thing, honestly. I see...A...LOT...of these types of blogs from SAHM Christian moms.

...But some of it is definitely silly.

I'm pretty big on the "reduce, reuse, recycle" philosophy and upcycling is not necessarily a bad thing. And not everything needs glitter.

And here I thought that saying was "Idle brains are the birthplace of sin"!

My favorite "women rule" quote is "Intelligent women have cobwebs in their corners, not in their minds". Sometimes my house is messy whether I am the SAHM mom I am right now, or when I worked and went to school.

I knit, crochet and sew, make small, handbound books and I bead. I make a lot of presents for people, and I'm good at drawing and painting and love to try new recipes.

But I am not into competitive cooking, crafting, housecleaning or scrapbooking. People should do this stuff to be proud of their accomplishments and what they can learn and do-and not so other people can be proud of them, or fawn all over them.

Crafts!

Not work-safe; viewer discretion advised (hint: it's pretty much exactly what the URL says).

Now that is cool!

If I knew how to knit, I'd make a revenge-sweater for my mom covered in them! Mwahahaha....

Yeah. Mormons like crafting. So... crafting must be bad! A waste of time! Gee... can I say how much I hate crafting? Etc.

Oooh, did I just sense a new herd mentality?? ;oD

I actually like some crafting. It isn't the crafting per se that bugs me. It's the way they all look, lined up in that photograph together that is so TBM. Kind of unnnatural.

that t-shirt with lace has GOT to go. I like doing crafts, but the majority of the "crafts" on that page look cheap and tacky to me. Not ALL of them, but most. Does TSCC own a felt factory btw? lol
