Were you specifically told to wear them over your garment top? If so WHEN? My two sisters are arguing about it. The older one says it MUST be worn OVER the garment and the younger one says it does not matter. Both say they were told at the TEMPLE.

I was told they must be worn over the garment because the garment is to be against your skin. I was told in the temple.

Another change!

I've been both a temple worker and an escort for a sister receiving her endowment.

When my mother was endowed, she was told the garment goes under the bra so that the markings were next to her skin.

I can tell you that they no longer instruct women to wear the garment under the bra. As the escort, I was present when the temple worker said, "We no longer teach women that. We are not to make comments either way."

As a temple worker, we were told that women who were incontinent of urine could wear adult diapers under the garment regardless of whether the markings still touched their skin.

I went through the temple in 2005 and was told that my bra needed to go under, but I also had the "old" anointing that was supposed to have been changed earlier that year.

I used to think that women's garment tops had a bra built in. I didn't know until I found out from this site.

I was told the garment was to be next to the skin. I was also told that at certain times it would be ok to wear panties under the garment bottom. Manti 1991

My stepmother was told that the bra goes on the outside and the times in which underpants were needed, they were to go on the outside as well. DC 1971 ish??

This is what I was told when I joined in 1971.

I went through in 2007 and I was told it could be worn either over or under. The matron said to do whatever was most comfortable.

I was told bra and undies underneath was ok but not at the same time as I was practicing drinking a caffeinated coke. No double iffies. :)

I went in 2008. I was told specifically the bra had to be over it. I think it probably depends on the matron/temple. The matron also made a big deal about wearing garments when doing yard work too. I thought it was odd at the time that she would harp on the yard work thing, but I guess it was a big deal a few months ago!

Ghastly, sticky sweat-catchers so that it pools inside it, fills up to capacity then runs in a stream down my ribs.

There is an upside to having itty bitty titties.

I know! I hate bras too. They're a necessecary evil at my size, but they seriously come off when I get home.

Wait, panties?? With the garment bottoms?? Is this a common practice? Because from the time I was endowed to the time I left the church (1989 - 2003) I never once wore panties. Only the garment bottom, which yes was a bit difficult at certain times but I was never told otherwise! I did not own or purchase panties from age 19 to 33. It is a ver weird feeling to be 33 years old wandering around the underwear section of Walmart not having any idea what to buy, feeling guilty, and looking sideways to be sure no Mormons are around to "catch" you buying underwear.

For menstrating women who don't like internal protection, I think it is, especially before the "new" spandex-bikershorts style bottoms were introduced.

Yeah, I can see how much nicer panties would be! And here I was, trying to balance my 'external protection' on the insides of my garment bottoms. Good gosh... I can't believe no one even told me panites would be ok. But then who would tell me that?? LOL...

And seriously, I feel like a doof now that I'm a grown up and don't know what kind of underwear to buy. Not that garments are super comfortable, but I've discovered that I don't like briefs because of where the leg lines fall, cotton because it sticks to my pants... it's crazy.

Oh yeah, post-partum I always wore a big ol' pair of granny panties under my garments. At first I felt a little guilty about doing that, but I figured it was better than ruining all my garment bottoms!

I haven't been to the temple in a decade - since long before I quit going to church. I never had the time with small children and by the time they were big children, I'd wised up. However, back in the day, we were told bra over garments, panties are unnecessary, unless you want to wear them when you have your period, to keep your protection in place. That was told to us in the temple when taking out our endowments.

I just read through the responses on this thread and am blown away that we had such issues about garments. Crazy we even wore them.

In 1986 I was told to wear my bra over my garments but my bottoms were to be used as "panties" (long ones that had no support; sounds like that's changed). I was never told what to do when I menstruated but I logically felt that I should try and not stain my garments so I'd wear panties underneath my garments during that time each month.

Reread what I just wrote. I can't believe the lengths that I went to in order to wear my freaking garments. I can't believe I ever did that. Ever.

I was told in the temple on the day I got married. I think it was part of the wash and annointing spiel.

Of course I already knew that since my mother wore hers that way.

I accepted the explanation without questions. I wore the damn things for years, starting with the one piece jobs.

Comically I felt superior to all the people who didn't wear them. How little I knew that I was the clown in magic undies.

I was taught that bra goes on the outside unless you prefer it on the inside for nursing. Panties can go on the inside for periods.

It's crazy I wore underwear that required such detailed instructions. Even with the complicated stuff at Victoria's Secret, there's no manual required.

I went through the temple in 1991, and was given detailed instructions from which I never deviated...until I threw out the garmies this past May.

-Bra goes outside, since nothing gets between your skin and garmies.
-Shirt is tucked in to keep the navel mark next to your skin.
-During TOTM, wear double pads and panties on the outside. No panties on the inside EVER or the baby Jesus will cry. (This was a major pain in the keister, as panties on the outside just DOES NOT WORK.)
-Garmies are worn for everything except swimming and sex. They are worn for sports unless you have a required uniform that would show too much of the garmies.
-Garmies are always worn all night, no matter how hot and sweaty you are.

Looking at this list--and how I followed it perfectly--causes me to question both my intelligence and my sanity.
