So, FB has now become the playground of rabid (and pretend rabid) TBMs what with their constant posts of Gen Con or other sordid conference talks. Right now, I'm looking at Tommy Monson's photo with the following gem from his talk:

"Our task is to become our best selves. One of God's greatest gifts to us is the joy of trying again, for no failure ever need be final."

That's it? Those are the pearls of wisdom from the highest official of the cult with which they hope to draw in converts? There are other similar stupidities now online and on FB. How is what they say any more inspiring than any of those self help gurus out there with their books, CDs and expensive workshops? Why join a church if this is all you ever hear and learn week after week in Sunday School? And sometimes it's not even any better.

There is another breed of TBMs who post nothing BUT self help pap day after day on FB that it gets boring, just as boring as their Sunday services. IMO, these people are just bored out of their skulls from repetitious, uninspiring, uncreative talks that they seek out alternatives before they go absolutely nuts.

I checked out Deseret Book for possible birthday gifts for TBM family members a few months back and that was the same impression I got from all the books there. Nothing of substance, just vague encouragement from a bunch of old dudes with known anger problems. I don't know how anyone can put up with the patronizating quotes, books, talks, etc. from Mo leaders.

I recall an instance in the first area of my mission. We had tracked out a cool couple and I proudly announced to them that there was a living prophet on the earth. Their natural question was, “What prophetic message has this prophet given the world.” After some mumblings I came up with some weak platitude (It might have been “The prophet tells us to love each other”). I grew to dislike that question.

To the contrary, a self-help guru says seek assistance from *any* source, take action and judge the results. Sin or not doesn't enter into the equation - only is it helpful or detract?

The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve can only prescribe more and more Mormonism. Is it helping? Who cares? Do more anyway. When Mormonism goes of the cliff it goes off at an accelerating speed.

At some point I concluded that it was pointless for me to attend General Conference or Stake Conference. I have never heard a talk by Thomas S. Monson as President of the Church. These men have no knowledge or inspiration for my specific circumstances. Their only solution was ever greater involvement in Mormonism. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God."

I came to realize that for my sanity and greater harmony within my home I needed to limit their influence in my home. My wife was already over the top into LDS teachings and practices. We were achieving nothing of practical value while increasing tension and contention. Let's relax.

Did Monson say that before or after he became senile and fascinated with boobies?
