Seriously?? We want to claim that the fact that Obama's father was born in Kenya makes him not understand the international scene because of his "heritage" (half non-anglo saxon)? So far heritage has kind of been off the table. Do you want to go there Mitt? OK. This will be fun. But don't do your normal cry like a baby thing when the bullies start picking on you and turn it around and do the same thing to you.

Like we are then free to talk about the fact that YOUR father was born in a foreign country. Your father is from Mexico. And WHY was he born in Mexico? Because your "heritage" is chalk full of people who had total disregard for the laws of this country? Did your forefathers teach you those values? Does that make you someone who should be respected on the international stage?

Your great grandfather fled this country (well, the Utah Territory) with his 5 wives for the express purpose of escaping its laws. You know, that law about one man/one woman that you claim has been the tradition for 2,000 years. And what about your g-g-grandfather, the beloved mormon icon, Parly P. Pratt? Oh yes, I learned in Sunday School how he died a martyr. He died after being shot for his beliefs. Isn't that what a martyr does? Only my SS teacher left out a little part. You know that part about his speshul beliefs that he died for being that a man should be able to take another man's wife and his kids because he wants her for his 12th "spiritual wife."

Yup, and when "spiritual wife's" real husband finally tracked that man down, after that man had gone to Louisiana and helped kidnap her kids, move them to Utah and hide them, hubby shot him in the back. Martyr my ass. He died because he had total disregard for the laws of this country. What a great heritage you have Mitt. Let's make heritage an issue in this race. Oh, and then let's not forget that most historians, who are looking at facts, not just the whitewashed Mormon version of history, believe that the Mountain Meadows Massacre was perpetrated as revenge for the fact that the state of Arkansas did nothing to your g-g-granddaddy's murderer (the husband of one of his 13 concubines). So as revenge, the Mormons attacked a wagon train from Arkansas, killing 120 men, WOMEN and CHILDREN. Yup, that's all part of your heritage. Let's make sure the British have the whole picture.

Let the heritage games begin!

I can only add a few minor details... Like 80 or so of the 120 murdered at Mountain Meadows were women and children, including one or two infants...

No, it wasn't only "revenge for Parley's death," but it is absurd to believe that didn't figure into matters. My take is that Brigham Young's self-delusion extended to believing the Fancher train's appearance in Salt Lake City amounted to a "providential gift," and he was ready to exploit it. There was the small matter of the U.S. Army coming to replace him as territorial governor--after some decidedly treasonous remarks he had made and inflammatory rhetoric that drove federal appointees out of the territory--and no doubt a hysterical Eleanor Mclean crying out for vengeance.

No, that's not the thinking of rational sort, but Young was a religious fanatic, and not a rational man. Finally, the wealth of the Arkansas emigrants made it easy to manipulate the impoverished Southern Utah settlers.

One could perhaps add a bit more "British flavor" to early LDS history as well. For a number of years, LDS missionaries in the British Isles disavowed the practice of polygamy; John Taylor's outright lies and denials are well documented. Yet the publication of John Gunnison's tell-all bestseller in 1852 forced their hand. The result was that wealthy Brits ceased donating to the Perpetual Emigration Fund, which was soon bankrupt (while Brigham Young lived more than comfortably on church funds here). The solution was the "Handcart Experiment," which led to the Willy and Martin tragedies; over two hundred Latter-day Saints lost their lives in the worst disaster in the entire Overland Migration circa 1840-1869.

There are all kinds of stories and journals out there detailing how these early missionaries went to the British Isles and either never told the converts about polygamy, or the ones who asked about it--they lied and said it was all made up stories. Then these girls would join, the church would help them get to the states and the old geezers would be at the dock waiting to check out the young women and pick their harem. Parley P. Pratt was one of the most "successful" missionaries to Britan. We should make sure they know THAT part of Mitt's anglo-saxon heritage.

Wasn't polyg ALSO illegal in Mexico (at the time the Mormons went there)?

Seems I might have heard that. But when they went there, they were not U.S. citizens. They went there to AVOID being citizens when Utah would become a state. Mitt brings up the thing about polygamy being outlawed in 1890, yet HIS relatives went to Mexico so that they could continue it past that time. When his father ran for president, there was a lot of controversy about whether he was a citizen. That hasn't been an issue with Mitt, because at the very least he is an anchor baby. He was born in the states. As was Obama. And I think George Romney's mother may have officially been a U.S. citizen. But they escape all this controversy by saying "religion" should not be a fair topic. It's really not about religion. It's about the fact that he comes from a LONG line of lawbreakers. Flagrant lawbreakers. He's grown up learning that his family is above the law. I believe it plays into the fact that he doesn't think he should have to pay taxes, doesn't think he should have to produce his tax returns, etc. It's been the same in his religious life. He's grown up with "the laws that apply to everyone else, do not apply to the Romneys."

On his show a week or so ago in response to comments by the Mitt campaign in a speech and in some interviews that were apparently trying to paint O'bama as un-American and the 'other' because he lived in Hawaii and Indonesia growing up, etc. O'Donnell specifically pointed out that not only had the Romney's settled in Mexico but that they did so to avoid the law and continue practicing Polygamy.

Obama's father was from Kenya because he was a Kenyan. Romney's fater was from Mexico because his family were law breakers. Why would he want to go there?

Yeah, his campaign went there. I was waiting to see how long it would take them to step on their own melchizedek penishood-entitled penises and play the We-Wept-When-They-Became-Eligible-But-They're-Really-Still-Gonna-Be-Our-Servants-In-The-Celestial-Kingdom Card...
