If the endowment session represents what happens at the "veil" after death, why is the name of the 2nd token of the Melchizedek priesthood given by a temple worker playing God at the veil?

Because it was learned on earth, god wouldn't have to instruct the dead person at the "real veil".

How does that make any sense? Not that any of it does...but how do Mormons make sense of that in their theology?

Bump

Basically, everyone gets all token names and signs in the session. Why does a person get the last name from a temple worker posing as god? Even if it was "true", the real god wouldn't instruct anyone because they got it in the session.

I can't believe that I used to believe that crap. I don't know how many times I went through thinking "WTF?" before I got used to it.

The really funny thing is that upon entering the veil each time, everyone has more questions and nothing is answered...

Remember when you are going through the Veil in the Temple ** THIS IS NOT -the Veil between life and death**

It is a Veil that grants access into the "" Presence of the LORD and Celestial Kingdom""

Just for your information !!

Ok...but my question still applies.

"the lord", represented by a worker, gives you the name. Therefore the "real" god wouldn't ever instruct you about the name of the token, because Jim-bob already gave it to you.

Is there ANYTHING about these silly rituals that makes rational sense? After doing a couple hundred "sessions," it dawned on me that it's all a farce.

After all, if you ask God at the actual veil, he wouldn't have to say the words the temple worker said. He could substitute something else.

I figured we were learning the process at the veil, but the words at the end might change.

It's also considered necessecary for the husband to pull his wife through the veil before they are sealed to represent how the husbands will ressurect their families, or something like that.

Except that we don't do that for the proxy work. They don't have someone represent the wife with her actual new name that she was given during her iniatory and someone representing her husband and do a veil exchange. Why do they have to have all other temple work, but not that one?

That raises an interesting question. How can the dead proxy husbands know all the grips/tokens/and to pull the wife through, if they never practiced them here? Hmmmm....I like to imagine a trap door, kinda like in a cartoon, where God sits there with a lever and pulls it while laughing maniacally when people don't know the words.

A temple pres. once told me it doesn't matter if you remember anything. After your dead you will have a perfect memory. I didn't put any effort whatsoever into trying to remember that stuff.

I always wondered how the dead guys would know their wives names too. None of it makes any sense. It's really a crazy version of club house mumbo jumbo. If you want to play, you have to go through the ritual. The TR interviews and the washing anointing are the hazing part of belonging to the club.
