Sons of Perdition

Has anyone seen the documentary on the FLDs called "Sons of Perdition"? I'm horrified by it, and yet I see similarities between the FLDS and LDS and similarities in mannerisms and ways of speaking. I feel the main difference is in their practice of polygamy and also that they take things to the extreme. How can mormons be so horrified by the FLDS and yet not see the similarities?
