Seriously? And mormons think there is something wrong with us? Amazing what I used to believe in and how obviously wrong it was. I'm just glad I got out.

I was talking to my Mom about something unrelated to religion the other day when she interrupted me to ask if the researchers in my story were mormon or not--she wanted to know if she could trust what I was about to relay. If only she could see she has it exactly opposite. She should be asking if they are Mormon so she can take their words with a grain of salt.

Let's see...

Do I trust science, which has a rigorous method of testing, experimantation, observation, research, peer-review publishing, etc. a high standard of emperical evidence, healthy skepticism, years upon years of discovery, has helped the human race tremendously in understanding the natural world, improving our technology, medicine and pretty much doubling the average life span?

Or do I trust a hill-billy from the 1800s who made unfalsifiable claims about seeing an angel and falsified claims about translating an ancient text carved into some metal plates, that no one saw but he and his buddies, via a rock in a hat?

LET'S GO WITH THE LAST ONE!

What I want it to know is how come every historic prophet that we know of, rather Mormon or some other faith, received personal revelation requiring others to give him money, and to sleep with lots of women. God seems to have a lot of interest in seeing that his prophets get to sleep around a lot.

Good video. Theories that actually stand the test of time are inspiring and useful. Mormonism isn't one of them.

For me, JS's character is relevant to some extent but far more damaging than that is the fact that his book is just plain wrong.

I like how many people I know are totally certain that DNA science is too young (Hinckleys words) to be trusted regarding Lamanites, but actively cheer the DNA results that allow wrongly jailed people to go free after many years of incarceration, and I'm sure there is no way they would seek to discredit DNA if they were falsely accused of Murder or paternity, despite it being discredited by their formner prophet and the folks at FAIR.
