This is quite ironic coming from a church that teaches about honesty and integrity, except when it comes to church doctrine. Then, suddenly, if you are a good person, you have to accept the doctrine.

They also discourage learning or reading anything that might criticize the church. Any new information that does not conform with the church teachings by definition must be wrong. Even when finally confronted with historical information, there are standard responses such as "Brigham Young was speaking as a man"

This is very much like flipping a coin and saying "heads I win, tails you lose". It is set up in a very dishonest way.

It's not enough that the doctrine is bogus, but you have it shoved down your throat over and over again -- in Sacrament Meeting, in Sunday School, in Priesthood or Relief Society, in YW and YM, in daily (!) seminary for high schoolers, home and visiting teaching, etc. There's no end to it.

I'm at a loss as to why those in authority think that Mormons are so stupid as to need the same instruction over and over again.

The level of indoctrination is WAY out of proportion to that of most other Christian churches. In mainstream churches, you have a religious service that is roughly an hour in length. Children and adolescents probably recieve about an hour a week of religious instruction. For adults, bible study (in groups) is usually entirely optional, as are religious clubs, committees and organizations. That's about it. You participate at a level at which you feel comfortable. By the time you reach adulthood, the church assumes that you know the most important points of the doctrine.

Actually the mormon leaders know that people are smart.

That's why there is such constant indoctrination mixed with duty and social pressure. If smart people are given time to think or learn they would split.

Methodist: Your church has too much dogma.

Mormon: What do you mean dogma?

Methodist: Too much "doctrine."

Mormon: What do you mean "too much" doctrine/

Methodist: You have more answers than I have questions.
