I'm watching a program about the spear that stabbed Jesus Christ.
These guys are seriously putting some spears under microscope to speculate which one was it that killed Jesus.

I think it might be more accurate to say that they are testing them to see if they meet the criteria for a Roman spear of the period. I'm watching it too and , while there is no way of knowing for sure, it is possible that the actual spear might have been preserved.I'd guess it didn't, but you don't have to believe in anything supernatural to think it is possible that early Christians might have kept the spear.

Joseph Smith was such an uninspired idiot who
thought that time would stand still.
And that future people will still be riding horses and
carriages and candlesticks.

What Joseph couldnt see or think out (with his
limited brain power) was his novel, the Book of Mormon,
will one day contain evidences to prove he was a fraud.

And so, now, the BOM is becoming a huge problem
to JS followers.

There is no comparison when it comes to historicity between the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Romans, Jews, Jerusalem, Persian, Egypt, Paul, Solomon, David, and yes, even Jesus,... all existed. The same can not be said of Zarahemla, the Hill Cumorah, Moroni, Mormon, etc...

Show me your evidence.

Your credibility is suspect.

sorry Dude, but you are tripping in my book to show David, Salomon, Abraham's existence. What are you going to attempt next;
The pr0of of Exodus?

He didn't say anything about Abraham who was most likely a myth. The historicity of David and Solomon has not been decided, although there are scholars who think that there were real people behind the tales. As far as Jesus, almost all scholars take it for granted that a human Jesus lived. You can't say that about the BofM. Outside of the church, it is considered nonsense and there is no proof that any of it happened and plenty of proof that it did not.Same thing for geography. Jerusalem is a real place. Zarahemla isn't. Therefore, it is a valid comparison.

Just realized this was bona dea's post. I wouldn't have responded if I had noticed.

Why don't you look it up and see for yourself?

Let's think about this for a minute. A Roman soldier has mayb two or three weapons. A short sword, a small dagger, and a spear. what soldier in any century or time would give up his spear, or any weapon in an occupied country? Especially to a Christian in the first century. That means that the early Christian had to steal it, and get punished if caught with it, or kill the soldier to get it. Does anyone really think the spear was kept and preserved by the early Christians? Really?!?

Do they have a sample of Jesus' DNA to compare? They probably could find it among the Holy Relics across European cathedrals.

And he was like the 70th great-grandfather of Joseph Smith.

Bigfoot on the Science Channel; UFO's on the History Channel...

Survival shows over on Animal Planet...

At least Mothman doesn't get much play here...

I think it is quite unlikely. I think the legend is that the soldier in question later became a Christian, but the program didn't go into that. That isn't all that likely either, but it isn't beyond the realm of possibility. I just don't see why anyone would want to keep an instrument of death. If you were Jewish I think that would be considered unclean.Since the early followers were Jewish, it just doen't seem like something they would do.

Thanks. I couldn't remember the name, but remember the story which sounds like legend. I suppose there could be a small amount of fact in it, but I wouldn't bet the rent on it.

I haven't had TV in years, and it sounds like I'm not missing much.

I thought the show was kind of interesting although it hardly proved anything. The stuff on big foot etc was less interesting and quite stupid, IMO

National Geographic has produced and written some very questionable items over the last several years. I am not sure what changed in their corporate culture but Nat Geo seems to have become more open to leaps of faith.

We came into this world because of our parents lusts .. Pol Pot told Cambodians. Mormons believe our birth was destined
by them "imagary eavesdroppers".

Pol Pot told all Khmer Rouge members to kill their parents if need be, according to the draconian law he set up against intellects and minority races.

I think parents want the best for their own sons and daughters.
We should never harm them for whatever good or bad they have done to us.

As for me, had I forced my children to become TBM, and now Im out, I would surely hang myself. I am still single :)
