Is it just me or does the Mormon version of God seem a bit of a jerk? I was reading a post where someone was told that God made him gay, but doesn't WANT him to BE openly and honestly gay, but the DEVIL wants him to have gay sex and happy gay relationships.
Something along those lines.

Somehow this makes God seem like a total jerk and the Devil seem like this cool mixture of Shagrath, Dani Filth and Morpheus wearing an awesome leather jacket and telling you to be yourself on your own terms. It's not like I believe in the bloke, but do folks even realize how they are making the Devil, Satan, father of all things evil and hard core METAL seem cool rather than horrible?

Along these lines, if Nephi had been my brother I might have killed him too - they guy was seriously annoying.

Yeah, pretty much. Mormon god is at least as much of a jerk as Old Testament god and that guy was beyond jerk. WAY beyond.

I tend to understate things. I really want to use all manners of bad language because why do you have to worship someone who is so mean?

I think the Gnostics portrayed Satan as the good guy in the Garden of Eden, wanting Adam and Eve to have enlightenment while Jehovah wanted to keep them ignorant.

And I think some Jewish traditions say Satan isn't actually evil but that he's just doing the job assigned to him by Jehovah.

I think, though, Satan/Lucifer is just a name we give our own dark side, the self-centered part of ourselves capable of cruelty and evil. In that case, I have total sympathy for my devil.

IF Satan, our dear brother, did exist we would have to admit that all that we know about him comes from the mouth of his enemies, organized religion. And their credibility is shot because we've all seen their track record.

Anyone who has been to the temple knows he has his own special priesthood signified with a black apron and picks up God's telephone sometimes as he did when Adam sought god through the true order of prayer.

How do you hate a guy who's secret weapon is the truth and knowledge when the Good Guys in the green aprons have no use for those? This is very backwards.

He gave Adam and Eve useful facts. God just chastised them and gave them shame.

If you step back and take a critical look, who do you really think is your best bet for a happy ending?
