I sent in my resignation letter by delivery confirmation and it was delivered May 30th. I haven't heard a word about it, not even a "local matter" or "invite to return". Is two weeks a normal time frame? It seems other people have at least heard something by now. Maybe I'm just impatient.

I wouldn't worry about it. Once they have received the letter, you are officially out, no matter what any local leaders say.

Some people have received faster replies, but I got my first response almost four weeks after my initial email. (The letter stating that it has to be finalized by local leaders...bring it on!) So I wouldn't worry about it yet, give it another week or two.

Give the membership records department at the COB a call if you don't have the final letter by July 30th. If the bishop has not processed the paperwork by then, they will do it themselves.

And since they don't want to lose members, they're not motivated to respond swiftly to resignations. Sometimes they might, other times, eh.

They may have "misplaced" your letter as they did with mine. Don't worry though, you can always follow up on it if getting that confirmation letter is important to you. A month or two seems to be the ordinary time it takes.

I sent mine 27 feb 2002, and had to make a few phonecalls and an extra letter to get the confirmation the 14 april the same year. Ironically, even though they had "misplaced my letter" the confirmation letter was dated march 12, and consequently my 30 days of changing my mind had already passed when I finally got the notification.
