I want rid of the cult, but my family are too close to my local leadership and I don't want the drama, especially from my mother who is irretrievably lost to cult mind control and only sees my worth as I relate to the cult.

I want to remove myself from a fraudulent, extortionate, hate cult without having to deal with mindless irrationality from family who are literally out of their minds because of morg cult lies.

Even if the local leaders kept their holy yaps shut, it would be revealed unto your goodly parents, yea, even at their Tithing Settlement Interview at the end of the year, where your scoundrel name will be markedeth differently than your siblings on their records.

You have no privacy in a cult full of secret-holders and gossipmongers.

Why would that info be shown in tithing settlement? How is it relevant?

You say your family are close to your local leadership. How "relevant" your non payment of tithing is largely depends on whether your local leadership choose to tell your family. It may not be relevant at all to you, but that's no reason to assume it won't be for them.

I've seen here that all your kids are listed on the tithing settlement paperwork for some reason. I have no idea why TSCC would think that's relevant. But when someone resigns, their name is dropped from their parents tithing settlement paperwork.

We all have individual member records.

These records list basic family information -- parents, kids.

So... the basic status (or lack thereof) of an immediate family member is revealed ANY TIME a person looks at his/her individual record.

*Some* bishops use the tithing settlement time to review member records for accuracy -- most likely because it's a time where they have the family together in the office and it's convenient. "Tithing settlement" and the "reviewing of individual records" are separate processes that may or may not be held at the same time.

The first thing that the membership records department at the COB will do will be to kick the resignation back down to your local leadership (bishop and SP) for processing. After that, it will depend on how inclined both are (or not) to spread the word. But I would not rely on their discretion.

If people in the local ward know you, someone is going to notice you are not in the ward directory, no matter how silent local leadership is. I don't know a way around that problem short of moving to a ward where nobody knows you.

Your parents will know because as mentioned they will be given a copy of their membership records during tithing settlement which will not show your name after a resignation. The usual reason given for doing this is to correct any membership mistakes. I found this to very seldom happen. I believe it is another control mechanism to keep people from resigning. I had several distraught parents who found their child had resigned by this process.

So as an adult that lives a world a way from my parents my membership records are still there for their tithing settlement?

But I've never actually seen one.

Yep. I was in my mid-30s when I resigned, living halfway across the country from my parents, but sure enough, my name was missing from the record they handed to my Dad during tithing settlement.

It depends. Sometimes a child's membership records are in the parents ward even if they do not live there. This would usually happen if the child is not active. Some parents want it that way. Your records could be in the lost file if the church does not know where you are. Even if your membership records are not in your parents ward your name will be listed on your parents membership records as long as you have not resigned.

they have been sealed. And resignation removes your ordinance dates, not your name from that list of kids.

You have to stay in their records so they can dead dunk you later and your family relationship will be intact.

My stepson isn't sealed to his father. His name was always on the tithing record.

Wow - lawsuits galore! This is a clear breach of privacy legislation, at least in Australia.
