I'm writing an ex-girlfriend from high school about my departure from the Church and want to reference the quote from a very early apostle, probably Orson Pratt, but I'm not sure. In the quote the church authority remarks how the Book of Mormon is surely true because there is so much evidence backing it up. He also says that if we ever find out by study and examination that it is not true that we should forsake it completely and seek out the person who created it and brought it to the world and defame him...
Something like that. I'm paraphrasing of course, but I think I have captured the general idea without adding too much.
“If, after a rigid examination, it [the Book of Mormon] be found an imposition, it should be extensively published to the world as such; the evidences and arguments on which the imposture was detected, should be clearly and logically stated, that those who have been sincerely yet unfortunately deceived, may perceive the nature of the deception and be reclaimed, and that those who continue to publish the delusion, may be exposed and silenced...”
