Brian David Mitchell's jurors have started deliberation. Shouldn't take long. Oh wait, the jurors are Utards. He'll probably get the same lenient sentence as Mark Hacking.
The Utards have their reputation to defend. The Mark Hacking thing was an open and shut case that came and went, with some national media but just a flash in the pan. Elizabeth Smart's situation brings up all the things Mormons fear most from their history: crazy men pretending to be prophets, polygamy, marriage to underage girls, spouting scripture and being from Utah. It reflects quite poorly on Mormonism, in a way one crazy Mark Hacking didn't. Plus, even Mormons are good enough parents to feel horror at the idea of a child being snatched from her bed at night. I predict they'll convict and send him away for the longest.
