Hello.

I am currently recovering from a nice summer's day and sipping a Sierra Nevada 'Torpedo' - lovely stuff.

However, I'm more of a lager/pale lager/pilsner woman (at least in the summer). My current favourite is 'Steinlager Pure' from New Zealand. I also love Peroni. But I'm looking for a change.

Any suggestions?

If you live in Oregon, I suggest McMennimens's "terminator stout"

I miss McMennimens... we used to order pitchers of 'Rubinator'

I'm so happy for a beer thread!
I recently tried an awesome Scottish beer called "Old Chub" however, it was in a New Jersey pub that I tried it and I can't find it in California. Also, there is a wonderful California beer called Firestone DBA which is what I'm drinking right now. It's one of my very favorite beers!

Old Chubb is made in Colorado, and is available all over NorCal, not sure about SoCal but, use this:

Also from Oskar Blues... Ten Fidy, an imperial stout, comes in a can. The first time I had it we had packed it in on a backpacking trip in the Sierra, stashed in snow to cool, then popped the top while fishing and gazing out at the lake... absolute heaven to this Cali girl. Plus, easy to pack out the crushed can.

I agree that Old Chub is great too. You can get both at BevMo in NoCal.

Glad you are enjoying a nice summer's day. Reno turned cold and windy a couple of days ago, just when summer was getting going!

I'm probably the odd man out, but I love a cold Corona with extra lime on a hot day. I like most of the Mexican beers, Pacifico, Dos Equis, Negra Modelo. And we have some great local breweries right here in Reno: Great Basin Brewery, Silver Peak, BJ's, all with a pretty nice assortment of blondes, reds, wheat beers, scotch ales, lagers, and probably others I'm not aware of. (I am a bit of a newbie to the whole drinking thing after all)

This thread is making me thirsty. gotta go...

In southern Alberta we have Big Rock Breweries selection of fine beers.....Grasshopper Wheat Ale, Big Rock Traditional, Black Amber Ale (a fine stout in the Guiness Tradition) and Warthog Ale....all good. And then there's the Granville Island Brewery in Vancouver, so we have lots of un-boring beers to chose from...and you folks in the SW USA can get Maui Brewing's Mana Wheat Ale...YUM!

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

I did not know ('til now) that that Torpedo beer is like 7+ % alc! Full day of sun, sea air, no food in my tummy... no wonder I'm ready for a snooze...

Mmmmm...Beer... I'm a HUGE fan of Microbreweries here in Salt Lake. I like Squatters and their Chasing Tail Pale Ale, I love the tongue in cheek beers from Wasatch Brewery (Poligamy Porter and St. Provo Girl), Red Rock is always good for some great beer on tap, but I really love Epic Beers here. They know their beer and create great brews.

If I'm out of state, I know I can get a good beer with Blue Moon.

I can't really stand the skunk brew (I'm looking at you Corona...), and I am not a big fan of the big 3...

For all its sins, I've never found Corona to be skunky. In fact, when forced to drink it, I've often wished it had a little skunk to give it some kind of character.

Sounds like you're ready for the Belgians. I'd suggest starting with Chimay Cing Cents, or maybe Achouffe LaChouffe. Or you could ramp it up a bit with Duvel. Have fun, but remember, most Belgian brews are pretty high in alchohol and the really good ones don't really show it until too late.

Or, sticking with domestic lager and pilsner micros, try Sierra Nevada's Kellerweiss, Anchor Small Beer, Anchor Summer Wheat, Hubschbrau Pilsner or Lager, Gordon Biersch Pils or Lager. And the list goes onandonandon. And, of course check out your local Brewpub. With a few notable exceptions, fresh beer is good beer, especially those lighter in color and alchohol.

Lagunista IPA. I like that. And Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Lagunitas, I'm about to haul my lazy ass out the door to pick up a sixer.

Angry Orchard - Hard cider. Not so sweet and a little dryer than some....I like it. Any other ciders you might suggest?

Not a big fan of beer but I had a Fireman's #4 today...I am clueless so I just try different drinks all the time.

I actually work in a brewery - QA. Sometimes the tasters let us try some of the competative brands they get in for comparisons. I recently sampled some Premium Czechvar Lager. Very drinkable.

I'm presently into very hoppy IPA's. Here in the Pacific NW we really like our hops. A year ago I couldn't stand beer at all then my wife got me to try some local microbrews & suddenly I'm hooked.

Anyone else ever tried a Black Boss porter from Poland? It's the best porter ever.

That being said, tonight I'm enjoying a local Merlot.

Im Himmel gibt’s kein Bier,
Drum trinken wir es hier.
Denn sind wir nicht mehr hier,
Dann trinken die andern unser Bier.

From your description of what you like to drink (summer anyway) try 'Taj' a pale lager imported from India. Nice chilled (not frozen) on a hot day.

Cheers

The only way I like my beer is in bread or batter.

My prerogative, or heresy? Discuss. ;-)

My favorite is Erdinger dunkel. In my opinion, German beers are the very best. Then there is Banana weissen--hefeweissen mixed with banana drink. Very good.

Banana weizen? I just vomited in my mouth.
