"Minority"

I want to be the minority
I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority
'Cause I want to be the minority

I pledge allegiance to the underworld
One nation under dark
There of which I stand alone
A face in the crowd
Unsung, against the mold
Without a doubt
Singled out
The only way I know

'Cause I want to be the minority
I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority
'Cause I want to be the minority

Stepped out of the line
Like a sheep runs from the herd
Marching out of time
To my own beat now
The only way I know

One light, one mind
Flashing in the dark
Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts
"For crying out loud", she screamed unto me
A free for all
Fuck 'em all
You are your own sight

'Cause I want to be the minority
I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority
'Cause I want to be the minority

One light, one mind
Flashing in the dark
Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts
"For crying out loud", she screamed unto me
A free for all
Fuck 'em all
You are your own sight

'Cause I want to be the minority
I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority
'Cause I want to be the minority

be the minority
I want to be the minority
be the minority
I want to be the minority

Beauty. I was going to say Laid to Rest. "...and bleach out the stains commit to forgetting it. You're better off empty and blank, then left with a single pathetic trace of this, smother another failure, lay this to rest."

And, "ill chain you to the truth for the truth shall set you free." Actually the whole song is fitting but I like those lines

I've loved this song since it was released, but I just realized last week when I was listening to the lyrics that it's an excellent "F&%k you, Mormon church!" (leadership) anthem.

"The Pretender" by Foo Fighters

Keep you in the dark
You know they all pretend
Keep you in the dark
And so it all began

Send in your skeletons
Sing as their bones go marching in... again
They need you buried deep
The secrets that you keep are ever ready
Are you ready?

I'm finished making sense
Done pleading ignorance
That whole defense

Spinning infinity, boy
The wheel is spinning me
It's never-ending, never-ending
Same old story

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

In time or so I'm told
I'm just another soul for sale... oh, well
The page is out of print
We are not permanent
We're temporary, temporary
Same old story

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

I'm the voice inside your head
You refuse to hear
I'm the face that you have to face
Mirrored in your stare
I'm what's left, I'm what's right
I'm the enemy
I'm the hand that will take you down
Bring you to your knees

So who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?

Keep you in the dark
You know they all pretend

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri

No, I can't take one more step towards you
'Cause all that's waiting is regret
Don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore
You lost the love I loved the most
I learned to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

[Chorus:]
And who do you think you are?
Runnin' 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are?

I hear you're asking all around
If I am anywhere to be found
But I have grown too strong
To ever fall back in your arms
And I've learned to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

[Chorus:]
And who do you think you are?
Runnin' 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are?

Dear, It took so long just to feel alright
Remember how to put back the light in my eyes
I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed
'Cause you broke all your promises
And now you're back
You don't get to get me back

[Chorus: x2]
And who do you think you are?
Runnin' 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
Don't come back for me
Don't come back at all

Who do you think you are?

Who do you think you are?

Who do you think you are?

The first thing that came to my mind was this one: Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World". A crappy day outside tscc beats a great day on the inside.

I agree with Myselfagain. I'm always saying the same thing about being outside vs. being inside!

What a Wonderful World
Blackbird
Good Day Sunshine
Fool On The Hill (big Beatles fan)
Already Gone

Simple songs--because I don't want to think too much about Cultism anymore.

Defying Gravity from Wicked

"Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules

I will have to give some thought to my getting out of TSCC song but I will not be "Hie to Kolob" for sure. Have you all seen the video of this on you tube? All the pretty white angels "white and delightsome" to the point of puking.

"Losing My Religion" by REM is one of my favorites...it always makes me think about it. "Hotel California" by the Eagles makes me think about my poor unhappy TBM husband and how he is trapped. [it's also one of his favorite songs ever, figure that one out]

There's a line in "Already Gone" by the Eagles which makes me think about all this too, the one about having the key to your chains all along.

"Did you exchange a walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?"--from "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. That line means a lot to me and it also makes me think about trapping myself in the LDS cult when I was young.

"Feeling Good"

Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by
You know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good
I'm feeling good

Fish in the sea
You know how I feel
River running free
You know how I feel
Blossom on a tree
You know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, don't you know
Butterflies all havin' fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
That's what I mean
And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me

For me

Stars when you shine
You know how I feel
Scent of the pine
You know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
It's a new life
For me

And I'm feeling good

I'm feeling good
I feel so good
I feel so good

And I am all alone

There is no one here beside me

And my problems have all gone

There is no one to deride me

Friends---Bette Midler

I left the church almost the same time that song became her first big hit. I had left everything behind. I shed it all and literally had no friends and no longer felt at home with the family.

I knew loneliness and it took a long time, but I found friends, real friendships not predicated on mormonism. I found unconditional to the gut friendships and I built a new family. And if I had to do it all over I would stand at the edge of the road again and wait for my new friends to come.

'oh you got to have friends, the feelings oh so strong."

"The Pretender" is more my FU anthem, but this one gets me back on track when the PTSD demons invade with their squallerin'-brat twins: fear and anxiety.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgT9zGkiLig&ob=av2n

"Drive" by Incubus

Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much I'll let the fear
Take the wheel and steer

It's driven me before and seems to have a vague
Haunting mass appeal
But lately I'm beginning to find that I
Should be the one behind the wheel

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes yea
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there I'll be there

So, if I decide to waiver my chance
To be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine
And hold my own and drive?

It's driven me before and it seems to be the way
That everyone else gets around
But lately I'm beginning to find that when
I drive myself my light is found

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there I'll be there

Perfect by Alanis Morissette

Sometimes is never quite enough
If your flawless, then you'll win my love
Don't forget to win first place
Don't forget to keep that smile on your face

Be a good boy
Try a little harder
You've got to measure up
And make me prouder

How long before you screw it up?
How many times do I have to tell you to hurry up?
With everything I do for you
The least you can do is keep quiet

Be a good girl
You've gotta try a little harder
That simply wasn't good enough
To make us proud

I'll live through you
I'll make you what I never was
If you're the best then maybe so am I
compared to him--compared to her
I'm doing this for your own damn good
You'll make up for what I blew
What's the problem? Why are you crying?

Be a good boy
Push a little farther now
That wasn't fast enough
To make us happy
We'll love you just the way you are
If you're perfect.

Beautiful song about the value of diversity.

Here's the 1st verse:

Some believe it's rigt to say Jesus when you pray,
Some believe Mahommed, Allah, or Buddah are the way.
Instead of a God or pantheon of gods up in the sky,
I'll honour your choices and you can honour mine.

Whether you are red, black, yellow, brown or white,
A man with a husband or a woman with a wife,
We can debate till the end of time who's wrong and who is right,
Or I can honour your choices and you can honour mine.

"In The End" by Linkin Park

One thing, I don’t know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme
To remind myself how
I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I’m surprised it got so (far)
Things aren’t the way they were before
You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me
In the end...

...I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There’s only one thing you should know
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter

I suspect that Losing my Religion by REM is a good call for m,any of us. It was released when I was on my mission & I remember the students next door playing it & hearing it through the wall.

I'll put forward a tune by Brit anarchists The Levellers, called One Way which contains the line "There's only one way of life & that's your own"

The line was totally misunderstood by most people, as the band meant that every single person has their own way of life & not that there is only one way of life for everyone.....as the morg would claim.

Here is an epic live version of the tune at the 1994 Glastonbury festival, in front of an estimated 300,000 punters!

"Into The Ocean"

I'm just a normal boy
That sank when I fell overboard
My ship would leave the country
But I'd rather swim ashore

Without a life vest I'd be stuck again
Wish I was much more masculine
Maybe then I could learn to swim
Like 'fourteen miles away'

Now floating up and down
I spin, colliding into sound
Like whales beneath me diving down
I'm sinking to the bottom of my
Everything that freaks me out
The lighthouse beam has just run out
I'm cold as cold as cold can be
be

I want to swim away but don't know how
Sometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean
Let the waves up take me down
Let the hurricane set in motion... yeah
Let the rain of what I feel right now...come down
Let the rain come down

Where is the coastguard
I keep looking each direction
For a spotlight, give me something
I need something for protection
Maybe flotsam junk will do just fine
the jetsam sunk, I'm left behind
I'm treading for my life believe me
(How can I keep up this breathing)

Not knowing how to think
I scream aloud, begin to sink
My legs and arms are broken down
With envy for the solid ground
I'm reaching for the life within me
How can one man stop his ending
I thought of just your face
Relaxed, and floated into space

I want to swim away but don't know how
Sometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean
Let the waves up take me down
Let the hurricane set in motion... yeah
Let the rain of what I feel right now...come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down

Now waking to the sun
I calculate what I had done
Like jumping from the bow (yeah)
Just to prove that I knew how (yeah)
It's midnight's late reminder of
The loss of her, the one I love
My will to quickly end it all
Set front row in my need to fall

Into the ocean, end it all
Into the ocean, end it all
Into the ocean, end it all
into the ocean...end it all

[Zayra]
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)

I want to swim away but don't know how
Sometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean
Let the waves up take me down
Let the hurricane set in motion (yeah)
Let the rain of what I feel right now...come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down

Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
(In to space)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
(I thought of just your face)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)

This song means to me-- letting go of negative emotions that erode from the inside out. anger replaced with true-real love that is warm and comforting- never jealous or unkind. The man named Jesus was the spokesperson for that and he tapped into the human star potential. I like this song because I listened to it when I was Mormon a lot and liked it but had no idea what he was even referring to. I listened to it again like three years after I left the church and it was like 5 light bulbs went on and that love and the simple things in life are what will truly set me free from shackles that bind me. Praying is essential- good worthy desires raise vibrations- helping others is fun and good- I must wrestle with myself to achieve enlightenment- return to old ideas that I missed cause I was not a deep person as a Mormon. I was scared of so many things and ideas. reincarnation is trippy but I think it is real.. meditation is key- take care of yourself and love others.
