What is it with Mormons and phallic symbols? I'm so glad they didn't build this when I was at Carmel High School. How embarrassing.

the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument in Monument Circle...

OMG! I was right! From your link:
>>Temple Design
>>The proposed Indianapolis Indiana Temple is clad in white and accented with classical architectural elements. The design of the stately spire is reminiscent of the historic Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument located on Monument Circle in the heart of Indianapolis.

Can we say "faux Belle Epoque," chilluns? It never works. All you have to do is go see that horrid National WWII Memorial on the Mall in D.C. to know that it should not be attempted!

And turn it into a giant Xmas tree, like they do the S&S Monument!

It takes a lot of man power to hold a gold angel up in the air for years and years.

I used to take the school bus past Spring Mill & 116th when I was in junior high and high school, and I can say with great confidence that such a sight would not have gone without comment.

Important Safety Information for CELESTIALIS®:
Stop temple activity and get medical help right away if you get symptoms such as chest pain, dizziness, or nausea during sessions. Uncommon but serious side effects include an erection that won't go away: if you get an erection lasting more than 4 hours and you begin to see the Angel Moroni balancing on the tip of your penishood, seek immediate spiritual guidance to avoid long-term spiritual injury, yea, even Outer Darkness.

CELESTIALIS® does not:
* cure anointing dysfunctions
* increase a man’s Eternal Fecundity
* protect a man or his partner from becoming gay homosexuals if they masturbate too much
* serve as a male form of Fast Offerings

I'll forever more think of Moroni as being on a quest to fertilize an egg.

But yeah, this design is the most taunt-worthy since the San Diego Disney-lite sand castle/Fortress of Solitude.

So it could have been worse.

... but it DOES have "a supernal star-shaped atrium" between the towers. [There goes that 'supernal' shtick again!]

From the LDS.org article:

"Board member Leo Dierckman addressed Nielsen, firmly stating the conditions on which he would support approval including a commitment from the applicant to (1) maintain the proposed open space to the west, (2) develop a maximum of 30 residential lots."

and . . .

"In addition to the temple complex, plans for the site include a residential development—a pattern that has been established with other newer suburban temples including the Twin Falls Idaho Temple, Kansas City Missouri Temple, and Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple."

OK, somebody clue me in. So with newer temples, the church is also building private residences on the property? What does this mean? Apartments for Senior Missionaries or Mission Presidency and staff? Real, upscale homes to match the surrounding neighborhood? Are the homes sold to anyone, or only to Uber TBM's who want to bask in the Lard's Holy Temple? Are the homes connected to or owned by the church in any way? Are they somehow an extension of of the larger LDS organization?

Who gets to live in those residences? (30 of them!)

;o)

Thirty years from now, those homes will downscale to low-rent housing with cars jacked up in the front yard, a car tire flower bed, satellite dish and a barking dog.

It means that the Mormons are really self delusional and are convinced that by building a temple, they will increase the property value of the surrounding area, and they wish to cash in. Of course when they use to make the claim that temples always increase the property value of surrounding neighborhoods, they were doing so in a real estate boom, when all property everywhere was increasing, with or without a temple.

They're building a buffer zone so it won't turn into what I described above.

Temples are castles, and all about creating fairy-tale weddings for molly-peter mormon fantasies. The more fairy-tale like, the deeper the brainwashing about the sealing, and the longer the couple is bound to the cult.

A friend of mine just had her nephew, who lives in Arizona, marry a girl from Arizona who insisted upon getting married in the San Diego temple - apparently it's the trendy, Cinderella place to marry. The nephew's father has been out of work for more than a year and money is very, very tight in their family yet the bride made the whole family travel to CA so she could marry like a princess. Did I mention they live less an hour from the Mesa temple?

Oh well, at least my friend got to attend.
