Just watched Bill Maher's Relgilous. (I know I'm behind the times) Funniest movie I've seen in a long time. Even though I still consider myself a christen. Wish the part about mormons was longer. Anyone else seen this movie?

Tal Bachman (son of the legendary Randy, who's also an Exmo) and Bill Gardiner (who's presented at several Exmo Conferences) were featured. Tal has posted on and off here for several years (and periodically has to return to put the kibosh on TBM rumors that he's returned to the church).

Their influence on Bill Maher is particularly notable. I frequently cringe when the subject of Mormonism is discussed in national media because the issues are so complex that silly errors abound. Not so with Maher; he's been spot-on every time I've watched him (even if I think he's sometimes over the top).

I've seen it twice. Btw: "Religulous" Think: Rediculous. ;))) hehe.

The mormonism bit was good. My favorite parts were the Christians he visited with. Those were very interesting and funny. Mormons aren't the only whacked out ones. They are just some of the best at isolating themselves socially from 99.8% of the human race.

I just watched it for a second time yesterday. I want to get kicked out of temple square by the mormon fuzz.

I just ordered it thru AMAZON. I've seen it at least 4 times myself. I used to hate Bill Maher....not so much now.

I've been meaning to buy it. My hubby and I watched it a few years ago, we loved it so much we watched it again right after the first time with the version that has the comments over the movie from Bill.

I loved the part with the truck stop chapel, and the obviously mentally ill pastor who was talking about his made up history with Satanist. It was scary how obviously troubled the guys mind was, but how almost everyone around him could not see it.

My favorite quote: "It doesn't take a college degree to be a Senator." I may be paraphrasing that, but I thought it was hilarious for him to admit it.

Very interesting. I have seen it, have a copy. He really hit on the emotional attachment people have for their religious beliefs. They certainly are not neutral! :-)

Maybe I'm an outlier, but I think Maher missed an opportunity with the film. Too much of it was him pointing out how ridiculous this stuff is, but I think it could have been much funnier had he just let the people speak for themselves. The parts where people went into their bizarre beliefs and even more bizarre efforts to rationalize them were the funniest bits in the movie.

I just thought that cutting away to Maher in the car on the way or returning from his visits distracted from the film. I say just let the nutjobs talk.

But what do I know? I'm an evil apostate.

I thought it was overrated. Maher talked too much and got in his own way. The bit on Mormonism was bland and, I felt, one of the weakest portions of the movie given the material Mormonism provides.

I really liked Religulous. I advise anyone who enjoyed it to also see Monty Python's Life of Brian.
