I think they should repay them for their service by offering free education.

An education at BYU is hardly a reward. Sounds like more punishment/brainwashing to me.

If doing a mission wasn't enough to get them to apostatize, maybe they need four years at BYU. Sounds like exactly what they need.

Didn't they used to do that? I believe they did, but then cut it out as a luxury they just couldn't afford, like clean chapels or not owning vast amounts of commercial real-estate.

They do, but whilst it is free to the returning Missionary in actual fact it is paid for by member donations.

I think it is called the Perpetual Education Fund.

Pay to go on a mission, pay to got to church schools, pay tithing in order to be temple worthy, pay other donations... The only thing the church gives for free is a load of BS.

exactly...when I was a temple ordinance worker at the LA temple...I had to pay $90.00 a month to rent a room on the LA temple property...which was called " camping indoors"..because they didn't supply anything...I had to bring all my own food, tp, etc...

What the hell? They made you pay to do the job *cough*calling*cough* they assigned to you? I suppose you didn't even get to deduct your expenses from your tithing, either.

and the view...was of Westwood...but a elementary school was right next door...so instead of camping in the woods, forest or beach and hearing birds, or waves...what I DID hear was " The Pledge of Alligance" and announcements at 8am...

This reminds me of the whiny bumper sticker "My Daughter (and my money) go to BYU!" I've always thought it was kind of ridiculous, since the tuition at BYU is relatively inexpensive compared to a real school. I guess you get what you pay for, but then I also thought back to how much the parent with the bumper sticker had probably already paid: 10% of his income for most of his life up to that point to pay for other people to attend.

Not much of a bargain.
