Did you see last week's SNL spoof on " Fifty Shades of Grey"...I watched it last Sunday on HULU...

I wonder if I might go that direction when I read it

OK, finished the first one, probly won't read the other two. It is an erotic romance novel. Nothing more. I read the first one out of curiosity. I'm a guy, and there is nothing that interests me less than erotic romance novels. In the first place, two people never get off together every. single. time. So the erotica wasn't even real. After that, the book was hard to finish for me.

It's erotica. Nothing new about that. Women read erotica. This is hardly the first erotic novel ever written. Probably not one of the best, either.

There was a story on the local news here in Atlanta where one of the most conservative counties in the Atlanta area will not stock this book because it's considered "erotica." Since I'm not familiar with the book series (I have about 9000 pages of books waiting to be read), can someone give me a short synopsis of the series?

Just like the novels Anne Rice wrote under a different name -- the Sleeping Beauty series, etc.

I just think it's absurd that this book started out as Twilight fan fiction, and when it started to get popular she just changed the names and removed the supernatural references.

So if you're reading it, imagine that it was originally supposed to be Edward and Bella doing all this stuff.

For my part, my wife dragged me to the first two movies (first movie was mildly interesting, second movie was BORING AS #$%^), and that's all I'm bothering with.

I am currently reading the second book in the series and I'm enjoying the escapism of it. It's very OTT in terms of characters and plot and that makes it difficult for me to take any of it very seriously.

The sexy bits can be quite sexy but I had to mentally add 20 years to Mr Grey to imagine him as sexy (young men don't do it for me).

And it's made me feel awkward about wearing my converse shoes that have been a staple in my wardrobe my whole life. Now I feel like they scream 'I'm pretending to be Ana Steele!' UGH!

That 'product placement' pisses me off...

Isn't this one pretty far down the S&M road?

I am NOT into S&M...

it is just very popular...and the SNL spoof was funny...if it doesn't have a plot and is just erotica after erotica and no twists and turns..

then I think I will pass

I was at the drugstore the other day, waiting for a prescription. As I frequently do, I picked up a book at random and opened it up. It was one of the Grey series, and I opened it to a page whereupon the man was having the woman hold still while he inserted an anal plug.

It didn't do anything for me, as I didn't think the eroticism was particularly erotic, and the writing wasn't very good. I didn't read enough to get a sense of the plot, but the couple of pages I read just weren't very good. But then I'm kind of a snob when it comes to books, so someone else might really enjoy it.

I work in a bookstore, and it is wildly popular, especially with female customers. Contrary to company policy, I decided one night to skim through it as I worked on the floor. What a piece of illiterate trash! I ended up angry with myself for wasting those precious minutes on it ... our manager insists that we try to 'upsell' the other volumes if anyone wants the first. I refuse to do that, out of respect for the minds of my customers!

Yep, pretty much that's how I see it. I'm not averse to good erotica, even S&M themed, but this just isn't good in any sense. But there's no accounting for tastes. I know a lot of people who loved "The Da Vinci Code," while it made me want to pound a spike through my head it was so stupid and so poorly written.

I had never heard of this book until last week when I saw this hilarious SNL clip...

But hers is actually pretty good. Original, good stories, some surprises, and some pretty hot scenes, too.

She writes under the names Andrea Dale, Sophie Mouette and a couple others.

Just today I pre-ordered the boxed triple volume from amazon.

It will ship June 12 and should make for fun afternoons reading by the pool.

I downloaded the free sample from all three books on my Kindle but I didn't know it was going to be BDSM, so I didn't buy the books. Not a fan of that genre.

It's certainly not my cup of tea, but the only think I know about it is that it use to be a Twilight Alternate Universe Fanfiction reworked into an original story. Which is kinda funny considering... Although I don't think it's an awful thing that she did it, just don't like this kind of thing (or Twilight...)
