My friend just invited me to go to a drag show tonight.

Im so excited... but
we have a fashion crisis looming.
Any one here who can give me advice on what to wear?
Im a female :)

I just dont want to be easily spotted as the exmormon mom/housewife in the audience....I want to look cool and blend in.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Just dress "Evening Out" nice. You haven't a prayer of competing with the performers. I've been to a few in DC, and it's just your basic club mix.

Drag show. As in rupaul's drag race. One of the past winners is the headliner :)

Really big hair would be a no no, don't outline your lips in black mascara and keep your heels less than eight inches. You can forgo those things just this once. :)

So I listen to NPR every day of the week. My least favorite time is 7-midnight on Saturdays. Here in Seattle they do a show during that time called "The Swing Years & Beyond". I'm not the biggest fan of that type of music, but still listen more often than not. About twice a month they play an old song from the 1920's called "Don't Bring Lulu". I think of your screen name every single time I hear it. It sucks too, because I can't get the goddamned song out of my head for days.

I would just be yourself.

If there is any place where you won't be judged, it's at a drag show. I've seen people of all stripes at those things.

You'll have fun.

This is New York City, you can believe whatever you want

but

we will judge your shoes.

Haha.

In NY, I'd probably be very selective about my shoes. ;)

Leave the denim jumper at church. Wear what makes you feel good. If they ask who is here for the first time, they are looking for virgins to come up onstage. If that appeals to you, go for it. If not, don't raise your hand.

Take a bunch of singles with you, drag queens like to be tipped. Just raise it and provided they see you they will take it. If they don't see you, don't feel slighted. Those lights are directly in their eyes and it can be hard for them to see. Keep your feet in the aisles. Tripping a man in a beaded gown is bad form and they might force feed you a slingback.

I've had issues with all these things (except for the denim jumper).

ok kids, thanks for all the great advice!!
I'm going with the nice jeans, dressy blouse and killer (under 8") heels.
Sorry, no stripper heels tonight, Mr ambivalentmo will be sad... just kidding .
Hahaha

If anyone's interested, I can return and report :) After the hang over wears off..............

I'm off to the show!!!!!

Never dress more flamboyant than the performers. A woman scorned has nothing on a drag queen upstaged.

It's not like you have to dress like a queen...oh wait. You can wear anything you want, and you'll likely have a good time. Enjoy.

(I'm a girl, btw)

The last time I went to a drag show, I just dressed normally, as did my friends. By "dressed normally" I mean jeans and a casual blouse (not a t-shirt, but not much fancier) and my friends wore similar things. I did up my makeup a bit more than usual, but nothing anywhere near a drag queen's. Just dress like you were going to a club, but without sequins or anything flashy (don't wanna steal the show!)

The last time I was there, some of the girls formed a line to put singles down some of the drag queen's fake boobs, so definitely bring singles in case you find one or two queens that impress you.

Cool! I was wondering how it went. Some people are freaked out by drag queens. (freaked out like I am with clowns)

We used to have a few good shows here, but they're down to about 1 that I know of.

This was in downtown phoenix at a club called Amsterdam. I can't believe how much fun it was! and the costumes were amazing!
I'm hooked!
