I mean like before they started showing things about Aliens and ancient prophecies.

It's free on Direct TV, but not on basic cable.

I know what you mean...It shouldn't be called the History Channel anymore. It's nothing but whacko conspiracy theories, religious prophecy nuttery, and aliens/monsters. Sometimes you get lucky on the weekend mornings.

They do have Pawn Stars, which is redeeming in small quantities.

I find both shows replete with cool-a** Americana of the historical kind.

Ice Road Truckers? ... Its a compelling argument against evolution.

History 2 and NAt Geo are both better.

It reminds me of Court TV becoming the Cops and Bad Guys Gonna Getcha station. Then they changed their name to True TV when it should have been changed to Voyeur TV. Watch people suffering and embarrassed for your entertainment.

Very different from what used to be a respected news source.

Same thing with History Channel--had to turn a buck so became an audience whore.

And Discovery Health becoming OWN.

It was such a desolate landscape, I switched to Roku.

Now I get more control over how many channels I "see" and I get live TV through USTV (although it is east coast based).

With Roku you add channels from your computer. A list of channels is on their website (and comes prepackaged) but THEN...there are a list of developer's channels, some of which are people sick of how TV is offered in America, so they rearrange it.

Like www.nowhereman.com where the news (and other) programs are arranged by channel and displayed as icons. You pick your icon and watch the latest--or all--the podcasts whenever you want.

No more cable. Cost for internet connection $35.

Nope, not available in the US, but I'm a Channel 4 addict, so I access it via http://www.ukproxyserver.co.uk/ Great service, well worth the fee!

They come with this ridiculous byline of "History - made every day"! That gives them the cover, they think, to put 'reality' crap on that they dare to call 'history'.

So, pray tell, what do shows like 'Swamp People', 'Top Shot', 'American Restoration', 'Ax Men', 'Sold!', 'American Pickers', or 'Pawn Stars', have to do with History?

This crap lineup is cheap to make, no script, no studio time, just get some redneck bozos in front of a camera and let it roll. The dribble that emerges is, if nothing else, a 'history' of the further dumbing down of the already vast wasteland known as television!

We just upgraded our cable/phone/internet bundle and got more channels and HD at a lower price.

I thought it was a great deal until Beloved mentioned we now have 300 channels filled with nothing worth watching.

I know!

I used to love the History Channel. Now I hate it!

I can't wait for Dec 21, 2012 to pass they won't be able to feed that frenzy anymore.

Actually, since the Mayans did not have a leap day, the Earth was supposed to have ended 10 months ago.

I landed on an ancient alien episode and was stunned. The writer must be mormon, the story switched to Joseph Smith presented in a very pro Smith slant. I'm not sure how that was supposed to support the alien topic as it didn't make sense to me, but it made Smith sound like he was true blue.
I wanted to vomit and clicked off quickly.

I did see on the HISTORY CHANNEL, and purchase a documentary called "THe Mormon Rebellion" which covered the Mountain Meadows Massacre and threatened invasion of Utah by the USA, and how Brigam Young was a coward who sacrificed his adopted son..
The sister station A&E or AETV had the Hoffmann Mormon Murders story on City Confidential which I also purchased..

Annoying. They do this with EVERY CHANNEL. Music Television becomes Teen Pregnancy Channel. VH1 goes from MTV's little sister channel with pop-up videos to I love the 80s and annoying rock stars trying to find love.
TLC is just Dang, How Many Babies can You Have? Cable is just awful these days.

PBS, Green, the Military channel all have some history stuff.

There's also the Military History channel which still has some actual history stuff, and I recently found that I have the Smithsonian channel that is really good. There's also a good food history show on the Cooking channel, The Supersizers Go where people eat only food for a particular historical era for a week or so.
