Ive never heard this before? Is this a new theory floating around to explain DNA? This came from a real TBM.

No. Actually he stopped in China to steal silkworms and mulberry trees to make that silk the BoM talks about that has never been found in a usable form in the americas.

if someone were to take that picture of Lehi & his clan on the boat, looking out to the new world/promised land......

and changed their faces to Mongolian faces.

Since the Nephites and Lamenites came from Lamen and Nephi, there is no way that explains it. Unless they mated with Asians (which we know they didn't!) then there is no way even a trip to China could explain that away. Lol

TBM's twisted understanding of history puzzled me when I was active. I guess I wasn't really TBM because I never liked blindly obeying and blindly believing everything I was told. How can never experience any ?s in their heads is beyond me. But I suppose they are brainwashed beyond belief so they deny real history, real geography etc. Anything that doesn't exactly match the church's version of events is brushed off as 'anti-Mormon'...just the pay, pray and obey mentality.

BYU religion dept. used to teach that the Lehite voyage was across the Indian and then Pacific oceans, rather than from north Africa across the Atlantic. They left Arabia from the southern peninsula, and went thru the Torres Straits.

The source also said that Joseph Smith said the Lehites landed at 19 degrees south latitude on the west coast of South America...that's the border of Chile and Peru. I was a freshly reactivated 19 y/o getting ready for a meeshun and eating it all up...but even that made me go hmmm.
It was SO preposterous that I thought well it has to be true...it was the lord proving that, hell, I could have flown them over the north pole if I wanted to. It's a small thing for god to send them sailing the long way to America. I even looked up prevailing oceanic currents and persuaded myself that god just wisely sent them with the drift, and saved them from having to cross the Sahara...which would have required sneaking through Egypt. God is sneaky that way, he outsmarts us and our wanting to take shortcuts.
I did wonder why it took 8 years to travel the mere 1000 miles from Jerusalem to the south coast of Arabia where Bountiful supposedly was. Brigham Young made that distance to Utah in 4 months. I thought they were just uncommitted, dilly-dallying because they didn't have 100% faith in the Promised Land nor the Destruction of Jerusalem. I think god would have held off on destroying Jerusalem just to try their faith...get movin' you Lazy Lehitz! But Jerusalem's not destroyed yet...wait for it, wait for it...

To be honest, the divine engineering and navigation in the BoM never bothered me. If there was a god who MADE the world, and after all nowdays we know the world is just a small planet anyway, big deal if god works miracles by sending pilgrims across the ocean in miraculous ways. I mean, how often have you had a layover in some hub that was out of the way of the direct line of travel...and I know someone who took the long way home from Australia just for fun, just to travel all the way around the world.

No, it wasn't those travel miracles that sank the BoM for me...it was it's sick thick prejudice. Black skin. Whores. Harlots. Unbelievers. If you're depressed it's your own fault because despair cometh of iniquity. If you are pained by the past you haven't truly repented. Bad people and their children deserve to be massacred en masse with wars and natural distasters...it was just housekeeping for "Jesus" to wipe out dozens of cities. Lost friends and family? You'll get over it. At least the book denounces ritual rape, murder, and cannibalism...and you thought Jesus wasn't nice. What a heart.

Yeah, I think Nephi stopping in Singapore to pick up some Asian DNA is the least of the BoM's concerns. Just doesn't save it for me.

I've seen this argument float to the surface before.

If Asian DNA was brought into the Americas 3,000 years ago, it would have accumulated very few unique (non-Asian) mutations. The frequency of new mutations can be used to calculate how long Native American DNA has been separated from Asian DNA. The most current estimates are in the range of 16,000 to 20,000 years ago.

There are no close Asian relatives for any of the A, B, C, D and X lineages found in Native Americans.

Explaining exactly how they dodged the millions of Chinese on the way to Lake Baikal would be helpful.

Actually, they didn't set out from the Arabian peninsula. They travelled the silk road all the way to China, all the while trading and buying things for their survival with the money that they forgot to bring with them. They eventually ended up in Southeast Asia, where Laman and Lemual took a liking to all the asian hookers. They liked them so much, they brought several of them, like 20 or so of them, along on the voyage across the Pacific. The wives of Ishmael weren't too happy about it, but Laman and Lemual placated them, and said they were just concubines. What the wives of Ishmael didn't know was that Laman and Lemual married them all in a secret ceremony. So the asian DNA got to the Americas through the seed of Laman and Lemuel's concubines/plural wives. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Apologists have been able to track Lehi (AND Mulek!) across the Pacific:

Hah! Good points you've made! "NHM stands for Nahom, therefore the Book of Mormon is true!" = "Adam ondi ahman sounds like the Andaman islands, therefore, the Book of Mormon is true."

Although I'm sure TBMs would fall for this article!

That's great. I originally read it as satire and laughed the whole way through. Then I went back to the top and saw it attributed to someone else who I googled and could not find any information on him. Nicely done.

The Book of Zelph revealed this mystery many years ago. Except it wasn't Nephi. It was Laban Jr. and whores he picked up in Asia to entertain his men on their way to exacting revenge on Nephi, who killed his father.

The "Lehi in the Pacific" article by Dwayne Samuelson is the biggest bunch of BS I have ever read. A new Low for LDS authors reaching for evidence where there is NONE. And destroying any hint of crediblility they may have had before.

I am sure that my exit from the church was accelerated by reading crap like that when I was looking for reasons and logical answers to my questions. Finding a BS answer like that is a testimony killer for a TBM with a real question.

No one likes to be lied to.

A desperate TBM recently told me that the middle east semitic people were "Asiatic," accounting for the Asian DNA in Amerindians. He also suggesting that all the metals we read about in the BoM simply rusted away from the harsh jungle climates. I thoroughly corrected him on points, for example only iron rusts.

Pssh. Like you and your puny "science" with its "explanations" know anything about metal.
