During the second world war, Hinckley got a job as an administrator for the Rail Roads. If you watch the propaganda film, they make it sound like he was personally responsible for getting all the trains to run on time, for the whole country, and that without him, they would all be colliding into each other and exploding.

What I really think he was doing, was a low level clerk job for the railroad commission, that a family friend used congressional influence to get him, so that he wouldn't have to go fight in the war. This is a pretty strong accusation, so I would like someone with a little more knowledge on the subject to put in their input.
