What struck me as interesting in this article is the report that the church had gained nearly 400,000 members in 2010, and about 70 percent of them were converted by college-age missionaries.

I kind of went off in the comments section. It just bugs me that the New York Times couldn't be bothered to scratch below the surface and find out what missions are really like. They just took at face value the positive stuff they got from the missionaries and church leaders.

The article was in the Idaho Statesman today and I found it to be more of a romantic version of missionary work. My Dad was a missionary in Borneo and Papua New Guinea through the Lutheran Church of America. The church set up schools and built churches, etc. and he would preach to the people in the community. He wasn't required to go out two-by-two to find people to convert . . . it just seems a bit harsh.

I'm getting your book to read here shortly . . . I'm looking forward to it :-)
