I don't think anyone would disagree that Mitt's campaign for President is making it harder to avoid a discussion of politics on the RFM board.

Wouldn't Mitt's election, a very real possibility, force a re-examination of this long standing policy, out of necessity?

People who have tried and miserably failed in the practice and art of cognative dissonance will certainly not be very capable of ignoring and avoiding the huge elephant that would be standing in the middle of the room, should Mitt become president of the U.S.

It is a good policy. This board is fairly united because we all share our opinion of the church.

Once politics becomes a major factor it will go into chaos. I don't mean civil disagreement, I mean chaos. Go read a few threads on political sites. They are downright nasty from both sides. Not everyone on here might oppose Willard's presidency. There are some things he might do I might like along with much I don't.

We should be open to talking about anything faith related about his presidency though.

I think it is a good policy, however the LDS church and politics are intertwined-particularly with the mitt factor.

He is a politician, but what i find interesting is he is a product of LDS Inc. He is campaigning- he is being a salesman- selling a product, in a fashion and manner like a missionary.

He is using the common LDS tactics of bending truth, waffling on anything controversial while behind the scenes pushing an agenda.

It is not a good thing to have the readers of this board divided and yelling at each other over politics, however, it in this case it is also an examination of mormonism, their training and sales techinques, and a glimpse into where they want to see things going.

It is all connected.

however, I'd rather not see this become the anti-whoever's-a-Mormon-candidate for office X board.

Personally, I don't give a rip about any of the Mormon celeb/politician crap (I usually skip those threads and probably should even bother chiming in here... my apologies).

They've got nothing to do with my exodus from the cult... immediate and extended family and the random former associate TBM are where the annoyances come from in my world.

I think it would be fair to speak about anything the Prez would do if YOU who were Mormon think it was done due to his belief system. Why should that be wrong? If he makes it as Prez- and I hope not- I would be very interested in exmormons saying something like.....He did that or made that decision because we are trying so hard to get missionaries into China or Africa for instance. Since Mormons want to rule the world any info on his decisions are fair play IMO.Also would be interested in the names of people he has working close to him...aides etc. I am sure some of you will know them or at least their names. I would be shocked if 80% of his close staff should he become the Prez is not Mormon. Again, I hope he loses and I am not an Obama fan either.
