I sense that mormons reject most of their senses and powers. How do they manage to make a living?

Personally, I wasted lots of time on ideology, and all it lead to was that people never wanted to employ me or be my friend.

I strive to learn to live today.

I know more and more of the fact that I am only one guy of many billions out there.

LIVE TODAY.

Do not life for abrahamtic superstitions.

This statement made me think about, in terms of survival, how dependent we are as human on our aliances -- with family, friends, cultural groups, and organizations.

To what degree does church membership give *tangible* benefits to LDS members? We all remember how during the height of the recession, church members who were in danger of losing their homes were basically told to take a hike. Then somehow LDS authorities find the money to sink *five billion dollars* of church money into a condo/mall complex. Yet the church didn't have any money to save its devoted families' homes? Really?

For every member who has received a check or goods from the bishop's storehouse, we have heard from deserving members who were denied any help whatsoever. Or we've heard from members who were given help but were told to work it off. Way to go, Mormon church! Kick a member when he or she is down.

Board members have commented about the wide range of church activities available back in the old days -- church suppers, road shows, craft days, book discussions, dances, etc. Now budgets for YM, YW, and activites for the adults have been stretched to the breaking point. It's like trying to run a car on fumes, not gasoline. Where is the sense of responsibility from church leaders to the membership?

How many times have we read about a member released from his or her calling without thanks? How many missionaries are thanked for their numerous sacrifices and their service?

In return for tithing and their numerous labors, the Mormon church is giving precious little back to the membership. Members had better hope that they get something back in the afterlife, because their devotion to the church is buying nothing in the way of returned loyalty to them at present. It is an alliance without benefit.

You sure hit the nail on the head and I totally agree with you.

...some of the apostles have learned a bit psychology and now knows that the less the members get back in return for their investment (in this life which is what matters) the more the members will be caught in cognitive dissonance. That is manipulating the members to lie to themselves and make up all kinds of excuses why they have to take such crap from their leaders.

This also means that the leaders don't have to actually provide the members with reasons and thus can claim to be totally innocent if say someone get's so guilt-ridden that he or she kills herself. "We never said it was because of her sins". No she was just manipulated to imagine it. That would be both scary and absolutely brilliant. Sometimes I wonder, despite being atheist, if the mormon church isn't run by Satan himself.

Volramos--are you ex-Islamic, then?

Just wondering because you use the word "abrahamic" which is usually a term used by Moslems to describe Jews/Christians.

I am curious if you are in hiding or have experienced shunning, threats, or been cut off formally for losing faith.

:)

Hi anagrammy.

I use the word abrahamitic to distance myself to that mediterranian and oriental religious tradition. I was born and raised in a country (Sweden) with a christian state church (until the year of 2000 from the 1500s the nation had a state church).

My only problem is that I was rejected by the community that practice the pattern that is described by Marion Stricker in her book about the double bind.

That is my only struggle going on and will continue into death.

They forced me into a zone that would imply death or suicide for the majority of the people molested.

I will never allow them to get me. I will conserve what is left of my soul.

I am no moslem, no anti-semitic. I am no heaten. I am one with the deist-God.

I know that the deist-God offers me an unknown universe I will never know.

Also, I know that when I was rejected the attitude of plato caught my attention.

I also know that some institutions in america caught my attention, and I have a strong feeling in my heart about protecting the last vital remnant that is left of the enlightenment.

Good for you, volrammos.

The crushing of the individual identity, conscience, being, any attempt at absorption which brings a loss of personal uniqueness and joy is a loss to the human race.

Your spirit of resistance is the very definition of being human. The only reason we have progressed in culture, technology, philosophy, art, music, whatever--always it is because someone stepped out of line and tried something different.

When someone turns then to force a fellow life traveler to kneel, to surrender their unique view of the world for his, to me this is sin whether it is in the name of a god or an idea.

I admire your stance. There is a great movement toward personal enlightenment going on as more and more people identify themselves as "spiritual not religious." Many realize that religions in general have forgotten their mission to introduce people to a more spiritual way of life. Rather they exist to promote themselves at the expense of the individual.

No more. Peace--:)

Generally, for tomorrow.

The only way some of them are successful, and it's usually the men, is by the women managing the household and the men focusing on their careers. In a very few families, the situation is reversed - but usually, it's exactly this way.

Think about a man who is focused solely on his career, and who has very little day to day involvement with his kids, because his wife takes care of it for him--except perhaps on holidays. They won't be usually tempted to go out and drink with the guys or coworkers or other things or live in the moment by hitting the links with their buddies. Their focus is on work and church, in that order.

And with the women, the focus is on church, and family, and ensuring her husband's success in his job. So from this standpoint, some mormon families are financially successful.

The Mormon men who start to focus on the ideaology of Mormonism instead of their career usually end up going off the deep end, it seems. Or they quit Mormonism altogether.
